Ray's answer is correct. If you pry the plastic knob straight up off of the tone pot shaft, you should see the retaining nut. I would usually take the time to open up the plastic cover on the back of the gutar first, to make sure that the wires haven't been twisted around too badly, since the pot has been moving around, to align it to the proper position before re-tightening the nut.

The company from where you got the pickups would have the schematic. What pickup are they.
When there are 4 wires it usually to split the coils in the individual pickups

You also can deduce the wastage, because for every size is a wattage, or the other way around. When you are not sure, and it fits, use a bigger resistor. The same resistance (ohm) but a higher wattage is no problem as long as it fits in the housing.
