On some models, pressing Fn and F4 key will disable/enable Num lock on latitude. On some other Dell laptops, a BIOS setup menu selection must be made when turning on the laptop to enable it to work.

Battery light flashes green 5 times, then changes to orange.

The flashing green indicator is telling you (and the notebook) that the battery is almost fully charged, but then by switching immediately to flashing orange, the status has changed to "battery charge is low". This is not normal behaviour and probably indicates a serious issue with the battery. My guess is that the charging is initiating some kind of rapid battery self-discharge. Ref - Knowledge Base Notebooks will power up and work without a battery just fine. Ref - Laptop Battery Basics dummies Try to operate yours this way. This will eliminate the battery from the loop as a potential cause of the BSODs you are seeing.

My Latitude D520 * 09/09 - I replaced the original

I'm not sure that there is an "Optimum" hard drive for your Latitude. If you are replacing hdds this quickly there is something else that is causing them to fail. Nearly all hdds have a minimum of 3 year warranty and many have a 5 year warranty. If you are having multiple failures less than 5 months out on every hdd then the issue is likely with the Latitude and not the hdd. Your power supply/brick may be the issue. The fact that this brand and model of laptop were reviewed by laptop review back in 2006 tells me that this laptop is well past its life expectancy. IMHO it is time to upgrade and stop wasting your time on old (10 years +) equipment.

I have got this dell latitude-d510 that comes on

It could be the processor overheating, screen saver or overheating GPU. Once the display goes off connect the laptop to an external monitor and check if u get a display on it. If you do, it could be the LCD panel or LCD cable strip. If you dont, clean the processor and see if it helps. If not, the GPU would be faulty.

Why doesnt my dell latitude d180 not let me get on the internet with a belkin internet card

You didn't give enough information - I have to assume you are using Windows XP. For a wired connection: Click "Start" Click "Control Panel" Click "Network and Internet Connections" Click "set up or Change your Internet Connection" Then use the "Internet Properties" dialog box with the "Connections" tab selected. Close to the top click the "Setup" box. this should open up a wizard and from there you will need to enter the information from your ISP. For a wireless connection you can click on the "Wireless Network Setup Wizard " instead of the "Set up or Change your Internet Connection"

Reset bios password dell latitude d520

Each manufacturer uses a backdoor password for this exact reason. for Dell - it is Dell. It may work, but if not try to remove the CMOS battery for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Turn the computer upside-down and to help prevent damage to the system board, remove the main battery before working inside the computer.

Remove the main battery: Slide the battery-bay latch release on the bottom of the computer and then remove the battery from the battery bay.

Remove the CMOS battery- loosen the captive screw on the RAM cover, and then remove the cover. Use a plastic scribe to slide into the guide on the side of the coin-cell battery compartment, and lift the battery out. When you replace the battery, insert it at a 30-degree angle under the clip with the positive (identified by a plus [+] symbol) side up, and then push it into place.

Dell latitude d520 starts with battery but not with ac adaptor

It could be a bad adapter, a short that drags everything down when plugged in.. could be a short inside the computer doing the same thing. Borrow an adapter to see if you get the same result, if a friend or shop will help you with that. A digital VOM could tell you if the right voltage is being put out by the adapter. Read on it, if it's supposed to be DC voltage and you get AC, the adapter is bad.

I was trying to help a friend clean up his laptop

You use the gpedit.msc command in the run box if your OS supports this command. (Your lower end OS will not have it - usually the pro versions, etc.) Check it out further on google. Just be careful.

I have a Dell Latitude

A cmos password can be deleted by removing the cmos battery and moving the jumper to the clear position. TAke out battery and remove adapter. Wait a few minutes and put battery back in - cmos defaults will have been restored with no password. If you use a Hiren 15.2 disk or equivalent you can get into the computer OS, control panel, and delete any password accounts in the user area.
