Black and Decker 18 V 18 V battery charger light stays on red doesn't Flash just stays red and the battery doesn't charge Why is that and how can I Fix it

There could be several reasons why the Black and Decker 18V battery charger's light stays red and the battery doesn't charge. Some possible causes include:
  1. The battery is not properly seated in the charger. Make sure the battery is securely inserted into the charger's battery compartment.
  2. The battery is damaged and cannot be charged. Try using a different battery to see if it charges properly.
  3. The charger is not functioning properly. Try using a different charger to see if it charges the battery.
  4. The outlet or power source you are using is not providing enough power. Try plugging the charger into a different outlet or using a power strip with surge protection.
  5. The charger's fuse is blown or the charging contacts are corroded or dirty. Clean the contacts and check for a blown fuse.
If none of these solutions work, it may be best to contact Black and Decker's customer service for further assistance or to get a replacement.

Stuck drill bit in black and decker 18v cordless drill

Lock the chuck and undo the collar. Lock is midway between Screw and Unscrew.Or if it is stuck because the drill was really too big, put the drill on the floor and hold it with your foot, grip the drill with channel lock pliers and hit the jaws with a hammer away from the drill.

Removing a no key drill chuck

in my experience portable drills tend to fail in two main areas. One area is the batteries and the other area is the chuck where it is often very difficult getting the keyless chuck off. In relation to the batteries, They have a finite life. I used to repack the NiCd battery packs but have given this away due to the use of Li Ion type and repacking is no longer economical. As a consequence I now have a drawer full of perfectly good drills but they have dead batteries. To make use of these otherwise useless drills, depending on the voltage, these can be converted into 12Volt DC operation by hooking up a flexible twin wire cable to the empty battery pack. Just use the original contacts inside the battery pack and feed the cable through a suitable hole drilled in the battery pack casing. Put a set of clips on the other end of the lead to go on a car battery and hey presto you have a 12 volt drill. You should be able to use drills rated between say 9.6V to 14V. Just experiment. In the second area, the keyless chuck tends to malfunction making it impossible to use with small drill bits. To use a drill with malfunctioning keyless chuck, I have successfully employed an old chuck and spindle from a cannibalized drill (see pic). Another application uses a right angle drill attachment (see pic). In both cases the chuck jaws worked sufficiently to grip the attachment. electric drill using auxiliary chuck-3ayzydvsnbfbids1bim3njz5-2-0.jpg 12 volt drill-3ayzydvsnbfbids1bim3njz5-2-2.jpg drill using right angle attachment-3ayzydvsnbfbids1bim3njz5-2-5.jpg

I can't tighten the bit in my Black and Decker drill. It won't close on the bit and hold it in. What do I do?

Make sure the screw that is down inside the drill head is not loose, if it is it will interfere with the jaws.

Black n decker lithium battry charger keeps flashing red

My 20V battery was stored completely discharged for over 8 months. After all that time I bet the battery was holding no charge whatsoever. When you plug a completely drained battery to a charger the charger will experience a big demand in current and will fault out, flashing red. So we need to put just a little bit of charge in the battery for the charger to start working. What I did is with the battery in charger unplug and plug the charger like 10 times. Every time you plug it in it will send voltage to the battery for a split of a second before the charger fails. Eventually the battery will get enough charge for the charger to start working.

We cannot open the compartment to change the batteries on the black and decker wpak5b. It seems stuck or locked.

There is a rubber seal on the screw cap, try submersing in hot water prior to unscrewing.

I have a black and decker 1179/100 drill. The drill was dropped and now will run only in reverse but not forward. I took a look inside and nothing was obviously broken. What would cause this?

Obviously, the switch which controls the direction in which the motor turns the bit is either damaged or stuck. I believe I'd call B&D technical support. The fix may be something simple.
