Same thing.I put a frozen pork roast in like I have before but I then put the rub on and added cold liquid. Normally I rub first then add to pan. I kept getting E1 code. My wife got on here and read this so I put the pan with the meat in the oven for 3 minutes to warm it then put it back in the base.It started and is working just fine.

What you are feeling is residue from the manufacturing process. You should wash it with Dawn. Be careful not to get the electronic parts wet.
