Give a little more details as to what happens when you hit the power button. How do you know the Bios is corrupt?

Compatible AC Adapter for Compaq Presario F755US Laptop I think it has a bad power adapter yielding insufficient voltage. This system is running Vista which makes it quite dated. However, you can try the replacement supply and see what happens. Or, they coud view Utube on an inexpensive android tablet. However, you can try the following (I am guessing you do not have the Vista disc): To boot into the Advanced Boot Options menu, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer
2. Press F8 as soon as your computer starts to boot, but before the Windows Vista logo appears
3. The Advanced Boot Options menu should now appear
4. Select the Repair your computer option
5. Press Enter
6. System Recovery Options should now be available (You may need to select your time, keyboard and language preferences before the list of tools is displayed)

Some of these options will if operating at all restore your computer to factory defaults erasing data and programs installed after it first came out of the box.

Xp will not install in place of 98. the hardware is too old. Set bios to boot from disk. If you have a rescue disk boot to safe mode and see what the problem is.

Start out by removing the Hard drive and have it tested. If its bad? replace it with an SSD or 7200 rpm, this will speed-up your Laptop. Also look to see if you can add more RAM, you may only be able to add up to 8GB, but check to be sure. as of XP, Microsoft no longer support it, but if you really need XP? do a Dual-Boot and have XP and 7 or 8.1

BIOS does the screen fail in BIOS< no OS running? power on hit ESC, F10 or what it told you to hit for 11 years. does BIOS work that button top left is the standby sleep switch . if bad , no sure what will happen, but something wrong will. the aCID TEST IS BIOS. works on demand all the time or not. lost, wow a CRT that even glows at all , and you wonder why its dem the electron gun cathodes get weaker every day of its life. all CRTs do that, not one or even TVs using CRT the red gun always goes dim first so we crank it up in the OSD. if it fails on all PCs, the monitor is bad, a 5 min test. and bingo then if the monitor is known bad then what. the OSD screen ever seen that, and the front panel key marked MENU/? go there and play with brightness, and even the electron gun tuning, the page for that is RGB, Red Green blue. adjust them so white looks OK. but if all are dim, that is normal for old CRT, we only get like 3 folks a year stuck in 1990s... or older. the labor to fix it is 3 times a new LCD LED display. land fill time. like the other billion made, and scrapped

XP is dead at MS. XP is a virus magnet, never ever ever use XP ever. again, like 99.9% of all other persons on the planet. we have no idea at all what you are doing after all where would you get XP , from some hacker pirates? my guess this PC is 10years old so says the service manual. this PC only came with VISTA 32 or 64bit. HP does not support XP nor W7 on it. that is official. to reload VISTA, power on and hammer F11 and VISTA magically fresh loads back to day one condition if the HDD is not bad. where is that XP at? on MS disc CD or USB stick on HP media kit disk bought long ago. and now not sold ! on some hackers web site, lots there are, and all full of virus and then you find the COA key is illegall. CFFL lamps dead, or its inverter, 99% on CCFL tubes. bad. all screens this old do that, they have short life... why not upgrade , go to used PC store get any PC there, 2010 or newer, that has no CCFL (has LED back lamps) and a future. best is one with W7 COA sticker on bottom. XP aND vista ARE DEAD OS now, not safe at all on the internet nor does PnP work now, at MS.com why even mess with old tubby CCFL laptops? carbon14 dated at 1999 , (as old as) its 18 years old. most are in the land fill, 99% or more. or shipped to N.korea for CAUSE.
