I rerouted the power for my Cobra XRS 9440 and I

Did you first check the fuse in the units power cord? The fuse should be in the part of the power cord that plugs into the lighter socket. A 2 amp fuse should be good enough.

Radar detector codes

When any detector "detects" radar, it will produce some form of Audiable sound. If someone is speeding, they need to slow down IMMEDIATELY if they want to avoid a ticket. It doesnt really matter if the radar gun is x, k, ka, ku, etc. You will probably get a ticket if you dont slow down.

Most dectectors will have indicators lights or displays that indicate the x, k, ka, etc., radar signals are actually being detected. This can provide SOME useful information. THe letters simply designate BANDS of frequencies that are used to send the radar beams. It is similar to changing the channel on a radio - k and ka bands use HIGHER frequencies for their radar signals.

X band is the oldest radar band and it is used for police radars AND door openers at supermarkets and other locations. If you drive by a supermarket, your radar detector is likely to go off and it is almost certainly going to be X band. CHeck it out next time you drive by a supermarket with an automatic door opener.

Since the police and the radar companies like to play cat and mouse, newer radar bands have been invented that OBSOLETE the older radar detectors. When the K bands showed up in the police radar guns, the radar detector folks had to have a new product offering that would detect X band and K band. And the race continues to go on even today and now, there are LASER police speed detectors and the new "RADAR" detectors now need LASER detectors as well. If you want to know the exact frequencies of these "bands" (K, Ka, etc), let me know and I will send them to you. But they are operating in the tens of GigaHertz regions.
