What OS do you have? Please add the update version for Windows 10. The drivers are still available from Canon here: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/i-series/i9900?tab=drivers_downloads for supported OS versions. It looks like the printer used Windows Update for to install most of the drivers under Windows 7. There is an optional update for the driver on the site but it doesn't work unless Windows Update installed the basic driver. The Canon didn't officially support the printer for any OS after Windows 7.

The Windows 7 driver worked under 8 (8.1) and some versions of Windows 10 for a while. (Under Windows 8, the ZoomBrowser software didn't work.) Then Microsoft became strict about not allowing unsigned drivers to install. The easiest solution is to find an old Windows 7 computer to connect to the printer. Alternatively, get an unused install license and build a virtual machine to connect to the printer. Note: recent cumulative updates for Windows 10 have caused issues with USB printers.

If you are using Windows 8 or 8.1, try connecting the printer via the USB port with the machine off. The restart the computer; make sure that the Windows Update is set to find updates for other devices (not just Windows). If you are using the printer over a network, some found using the Canon ProMark 9000 series drivers worked.

I hope these ideas help. I wish that I had better news for you about Canon support.

Cindy Wells
(Building a virtual machine OS depends on your CPU allowing virtualization and free memory. You also need the Windows Pro or Enterprise versions of the OS for Hyper-V (Windows 10) or the Windows 8 VM equivalent. Third-party tools for creating a virtual machine may work on the home edition.)

The following steps will help to fix this issue:
  1. Get a lint free cloth, rubber gloves (so toner doesn't get on your hands), some isopropyl alcohol, and a soft paint brush and gently clean any rubber rollers you can easily reach.
  2. With a vacuum hoover out any loose toner particles.
  3. With a lint free cloth very gently wipe the transfer belt (not all printers have one).
  4. If all else fails, you may need to replace the transfer rollers / transfer belt.
Warning: make sure you wear gloves and don't touch the transfer belt film with your fingers or the hoover, you could leave a mark that will cause additional print problems.

The Power button does not appear to be damaged. I've tried plugging the printer in in another room (by itself, no computer) and still nothing. I've also left it unplugged overnight and even tried using a different power cord. It just will not power on. Note, the printer was working just fine yesterday afternoon. The only thing I did was turn it off in mid-operation.

Even if the power button were damaged (and I see no sign that it is), it should turn on by itself when I go to print. Instead, I get an error message simply saying "the printer is not ready." (at first, I was getting a message that "the printer is offline", but I was able to toggle that by going into the Printer Properties in Windows and changing its online status.)

The printer is only slightly over a year old, so it's no longer under warranty (naturally). Newer models are junk, so even though Canon has a "trade-in" program, I'd rather fix this one (which SHOULD be something simple).

I bought the "Canadian" version of this discontinued printer specifically for it's CD printing capabilities. Newer models... and ALL U.S. printers... disable this feature (by law?) According to Canon (after I asked), there is no fuse inside the unit that might have blown.

Moving the camcorder rapidly between hot and cold temperatures may cause condensation (water droplets) to form on its internal surfaces.

Stop using the camcorder if condensation is detected. Continued use may damage the camcorder.

Condensation may form in the following cases:
-When the camcorder is moved from an air-conditioned room to a warm, humid place
-When the camcorder is moved from a cold place to a warm room -When the camcorder is left in a humid room
-When a cold room is heated rapidly TO AVOID CONDENSATION

Do not expose the camcorder to sudden or extreme changes in temperature. Remove the cassette, place the camcorder in an airtight plastic bag and let it adjust to temperature changes slowly before removing it from the bag. WHEN CONDENSATION IS DETECTED The camcorder automatically shuts off, the warning message "CONDENSATION HAS BEEN DETECTED" appears for approx. 4 seconds and starts flashing.

If a cassette is loaded, the warning message "REMOVE THE CASSETTE" appears and starts flashing. Remove the cassette immediately and leave the cassette compartment open. Leaving the cassette in the camcorder may damage the tape. A cassette cannot be loaded when condensation is detected.

RESUMING USE The precise time required for water droplets to evaporate will vary depending on the location and weather conditions. After the condensation warning stops flashing, wait for 1 more hour before resuming use.

I've seen a number of reports like this. I assume that you CAN print from other programs, such as your Internet browser?

If you can't print from ANY program, that's one thing, but if the only programs that aren't printing are WordPad and Notepad (and they print blank pages), the usual cause is that your printer (always a color inkjet of some type) will not print documents that are all black & white, but as long as there is some color in the page, the page prints.

The reason for that is something wrong with the black ink cartridge. Have you recently put in a new black cartridge, and if so, is it not the ink recommended by the printer manufacturer?

Or has the printer been sitting unused for a long time?

Print a test page using the printer's front panel controls. What happens?

Depending on the make and model of the printer, you might need to:
(a) run the printer's print head cleaning routine,
(b) print a test page, perhaps several times,
(c) manually clean the printer's printing head or related parts,
(d) insert a new black ink cartridge of the recommended type.
