Canon Optura Pi Mini DV Digital Camcorder. The

Tape mechanism malfunctions can be due to many factors. A bad gear is the most likely cause and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I’m a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I’m semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

My camera is jammed up and won't eject the tape.

Sounds like you have a "dead" camcorder. This can be caused by a circuit protect (tiny fuse) being blown or a bad board. This will need to be repaired by an experienced technician. www.austintelstarservices.com

I was getting a message

It sounds like something has jammed the tape door mechanism preventing it from opening. This is a very delicate part of a mini DV camcorder. I would highly recommend taking it to a electronics repair shop where it can be checked out. If you try and force the tape out you will probably cause considerable damage to the tape transport system making your camcorder unusable.

Take Care,

Sorry, but where do you plug in the power cord?

Rear top right hand side (above the record button there's a little door that has "DC IN" embedded in it.)

In regard to a previous question of mine

This looks like AC power getting into the camera, keep the cut-down power pack well away from the camera.

1) I want to transfer

The problem you have is related to frame rate. I believe your sony camcorder has a lower framerate compared to the Canon Optura and that is the source of the problem. There are software that are capable of increasing the framerate and may be its time for you to get one of them. I remember using Adobe Premiere when I had my MAC at the studio so it might be the answer to your problem.

PS: It is available for both MAC an windows so make sure that you buy the MAC version.

Optura Xi no longer reads audio or video

Dear Movie maker,
Well seeing you did have only drop-outs in sound, but did get a picture, now you have nothing.
This does look like you have moved quite a bit of the dirt within camera pic/sound heads, I did say moved (not removed) because these dry cleaning things we use today do only move dirt not get shut of it.
I think you should put that cleaner in camera again, and give it a really good run through, let me know how that goes okay?

Canon optura400 will not fire up. will not charge

You have a capacitor that is non functioning in your camera. Since it is not working correctly the circuit is not complete to have the power to run its way through to have it function

Camcorder on Computer

The USB cable is to download still images only. To download video, you need (1) a firewire cable, (2) a firewire port on the computer, and (3) a video editing software program used to download and edit the video.

Getting footage from a cassette onto a mac

Sorry but the only way to transfer the tape is to be able to play it in a compatible camcorder or player. Then use one of the analog to digital converters "available on the internet" to transfer it to a PC.
Best bet is to ask some friends if they have an old camcorder that will be able to play that video cassette for you.
Sidenote: If the cassette is fairly new it might already be recorded in digital format, in which case you only need a compatible camcorder or player and a USB or Firewire cable to import it into your Mac

Hope this helps, don't forget to vote if the answers you seek are helpful.

You need a firewire (DV) cable and port on your computer. The USB will only read whatever is on the SD card.
