Canona Elura 60 problem...

What a hunk of junk. Not a month after the warranty period expired, my Elura 60 would zoom out without warning and refused to stay zoomed in. I paid Canon to fix that problem.

Now, I'm on vacation (in the Carribean for more than 24 hours) and the unit wouldn't accept a tape. Every time I tried to load a tape, it would beep five times and then kick the tape out. So I tried taking all of the batteries and media out. That didn't work.

Next, I tried the drop method. I figured the unit is broken and I'm not going to pay again to get it fixed, so dropping it couldn't break it anymore than it already is. I let the unit fall onto the throw rug in the bathroom. In then tried to install a tape. Waddyaknow! It worked.

I can only reiterate again two things: dropping the camera from about 6" onto a carpeted surface over a tile floor seemed to clear up my "remove the cassette" problem, and the Elura 60 is a temperamental hunk of junk (although the recordings and playback are pretty good, when you can actually get a tape into the unit).

The cassette will not eject.

Tape mechanism problems can be quite complicated but they can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be diagnosed by a qualified service technician.

Hi,

This is highly suggestive of faulty ' CCD sensor '. Unfortunately, there is nothing you could do rather than calling Canon and see, if the CCD sensor for this digital cam us under CCD advisory. If it would be under CCD advisory, repair would be done without any charge. However,if it is not, then you need to raise you complaint and check what's the best Canon offers viz either repair at low cost or replacement at discount.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Most Windows PCs have USB ports, but no Firewire port. As they do not come with this interface, you need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card into one of the PCI bus expansion slots. You can buy these cards cheaply from eBay or Amazon. They will come with a driver for the card.

Of course, this only works with desktop computers, laptops or notebooks cannot be expanded in this way.

The sd card is not

Go in the camera options and format the card. If your camera does not have this option or it can't complete the format it means that :
Your card might not be formatted with the correct File System. Move your SD Card to a computer with card reader and Format with FAT32 File System the move it to camera. If the camera gives the same error, format the SD card with the NTFS file system the try again in your camera. If the SD card still don't work try FAT Fyle System.

I bought a 16GB sandisk sdhc card for my Cnaon

Your camera is designed to use SD cards, not SDHC cards which are a later evolution of the SD card with different technical standards.

Your fix is to either stick with mini DV tapes or with SD cards with a maximum 2GB capacity.
