Miele WT945 Dryer Problems - Stage 2 fix

STAGE 2: EASY ROOT CAUSE FIX (1 hour)

The next stage is to attempt a cleanout of the fan box itself. Fortunately you can get to some of what is needed without dismounting the whole box (if you want to bite the bullet on this straight away, go to Stage 3).

Dismount the heater by undoing the two large bolts at the front holding it to the drum, and two Torx bolts at the rear. Although the heater is still attached to the flexible rubber outlet at the front, it will swing up and off to one side just enough to reveal an upward-facing hole at the rear – this is the air outlet from the fan box. Peer down into this hole and you will be astonished at the buildup of mummified fluff and goo – it’s similar to papier mache.

Draw up a comfortable chair, fix up a desk lamp to shine down the hole, and start unpicking the goo with a fine metal hook (a dentist-style hooked probe is ideal – Maplin do a good set). First clean out the hole, then probe deeper to clean out each fan blade. It’s fiddly and quite a long reach down the hole, but by no means impossible. Turn the motor manually to move on to the next blade, and every so often vacuum out the hole with a small nozzle to remove the pile of dislodged goo. Unfortunately the goo is too adherent to come out with the vacuum alone, without unpicking first.

Finally, if you are confident with moving parts and mains electricity, you could finish by using the first few seconds of a dryer cycle to get the fan itself to blow the remaining dislodged goo out of the hole. Have the vacuum going while you do this to avoid a fountain of fluff! Also, be very careful that the heater and its wiring does not obstruct the motor while you are doing this.

With luck this will make a huge difference to the dryer’s performance, not only eliminating the motor seizures but generally restoring the airflow power considerably.

If you’re still having problems, or if you have an uneasy feeling about all the goo you still suspect is in there that you couldn’t see or reach from the hole, read my next tip 'Stage 3/4 fix'.

Why is the fault F18 error code on my bosch washing machine flashing?

Open the small flap at the front bottom right of the machine. DONT unscrew the circular white knob yet!!! Use the small black hose to drain the machine into a tray, by removing the small cap on the end of the hose. You will have to use a tray, rather than a bowl because the hose is only short, and keep emptying the tray.(put a washing up bowl next to the machine, so you don't have to carry the tray.) If water does not come out of the hose, then gently unblock it with a piece of wire or fine knitting needle. When water finally stops coming out of the hose, it is time to gently unscrew the white knob anti-clockwise, and pull it forwards. Now you can clear the debris out of the pump rotor, which is behind the white knob. Check with your finger that it can rotate freely, then replace the white knob firmly. Make sure the small cap is replaced on the end of the hose, clip it back into place and put back the cover panel. If this doesn't work then there is a blockage deeper in the machine, and dismantling will be required. Good Luck!!

My hoover dynamic next washing machine continually beeps but no error message I have re set how can I solve please

Easy peasy! Just fixed the same problem! Unplug machine..Take lid off machine.. Look behind program selected and unplug from circuit board (don't be scared! Try and unclick from inside the select know with small screwdriver then spray some contact cleaner in front hole and over the contacts to circuit board. It's ok.. Disolves and dries really quick.... I used the wd40 one me.. NOW NORMAL WD40!!) then put know back on and give it a good turn in both directions. Put all back together and problem should no longer exist.

My front load washer is making a weird noise when it agitates or spins slow and only when there's clothes in it.

A silly one to check is are you over filling the drum with clothes? (Yes, I've done that). Wet clothes are significantly heavier than dry ones. Check the large rubber seal the door fits into. Make sure it is clean, not damaged and fitted correctly. When the machine is empty and turned Off turn the drum inside by hand. It should turn smoothly with a little bit of resistance. Look carefully at the drum as it turns to see if the drum itself is damaged. You might need to CAREFULLY run you hand around the inside edge, nearest the big door seal, to feel for damage. Listen to the noise it makes as you keep turning it. The sound should be a sort of quiet 'hiss' from the bearing turning. Try pushing the drum up and down. It should swing a short distance backwards and forwards but not up and down. If these checks are all OK You will need to get an engineer to look at it as there is possibly something trapped or loose inside the main body of the machine.

Hi I have a Bosch wkm41 front loader washing machine and the inside drum has become loose and floppy ,can it be re attached easily or better to get a new machine it's 10 years old

It is a good machine and still has life. The most likely cause is loose or broken damper springs. You would need to remove the top to check. If it feels loose at the back, (the front of the drum moves up and down), it is likely the rear bearing. https://www.google.com/search?q=Bosch+wkm41+parts ..

The unit fills with water and then drains

Try to clean the discharge pump filter first (Instructions in the Use/Care manual).

If the drain pump is working, it's most likely related to the pressure switch. Check out this posting:

Only cold water flows?. Intelliseat isb-200.

Check to be sure hot water valve is cut on and water is actually flowing from hose. Check hose and valve screens for debris. If water is on and screens are clear, water valve is most likely defective.

The lid on my Samsung top loader doesn't stay open. Is there a trick to keeping it open?

It is done on purpose as a 'safety feature' after a child had his arm torn off playing with it on spin cycle. Lid was up, safety catch was missing or broken.

HOW TO REMOVE THE GEARCASE FROM A Hisense MODEL WTQ1602S top load washing machine please.

That normally requires special tools. Hisense are primarily known for televisions, so not that well known for appliances. Remove the agitator, remove the case and see what is underneath. It is not normally a job undertaken by a DIYer. https://www.google.com/search?q=hisense+WTQ1602S+remove+gear+case ..

Samsung Manual instructions

There should be another or more complete model number. Usually if you open the loading door it will be somewhere there on a tag of some sort. It may even be at the back of the machine near the top. If you can get that for me i may be able to help. Thanks.
