I would assume your battery is no good They last 4 years on average, I would guess

I checked with a Dewalt service company and they said that at least in the Dewalt line of tools you could not make any changes like that without changing the switch and possibly the motor as well since they are set up for a particular voltage. You might want to do some more research, like it looks like you have done, to make sure that you do not ruin a good tool. Good luck!

remove the black rubber guard from the front there is a screw on each side remove them then remove the lens guard then you can get to the bulb. I hope this helps. You will need a phillips screw driver and a flat head one small ones

Either the switch is defective or the wire inside the pole is broken

Pry off the rubber bezel with a flat head screwdriver, remove the Phillips head screw holding the reflector in place. to remove bulb you must loosen the phillips head screw and nut holding bulb in place , do not touch the bulb with bare hands use a paper towel or cloth, the oils in your skin will cause premature failure of bulb.
