Bionaire Heating & Cooling - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

I'm not an expert, but I have two of these units that are working fine.

The on/off switch (the top switch) has a light in it that illuminates when the heater is on and heating. If this light comes on and there is no heat, then the element is probably burned out.

The heater has a safety switch that prevents the unit from working if it is not upright. If the heater was stored for any length of time on its side, the safety switch might have stuck in the off position. Unplug the heater and with the heater upright, try shaking it or slapping it firmly with your hand to se if this fixes the problem.

If none of this works, then as sunmasc says, the thermostat is bad.

The capacitor winding in the motor presets rotation direction. Without the capacitor, the motor will not know which direction to rotate. With a bad capacitor,or with no capacitor connected to a capacitor motor, turning the motor shaft by hand will cause the motor to rotate at operating speed in the direction manualy spun, so, the motor can rotate either way once started by hand. This proves a bad capacitor. If the motor just sits dead while energyzed, then the motor is open electricaly, usualy a thermofuse embeded into a winding goes out.

I do have the same problem. I wonder if there is any type of maintenance this unit is supposed to be having.

I have the same problem. This is what I found when I look inside. I think this could be a quality issue with significant safety risks. I hope this isn't typical of their products.

Difficult to guess what the problem might be due to the amount of electronics the unit has that could cause inconsistent or illogical functioning. I noted one product review that said "if the room is too large the auto shutdown will engage". I suggest you revisit the instruction manual and specifications before deciding whether to call a service engineer....

Check out the element for continuity and the power switch for operation.

Thermal switch is ng and needs to be replaced. That switch is designed to shut down device when it overheats.

Hello christillejo, A total CLEANING works wonders...!! Check the fan for VOLTAGE... If present & ... If it is not running... shut it all down... and clean your fan parts with at least 70% alcohol... blow it dry and set it aside while you find your HIGH-GRADE (CLOCK-TYPE) silicone oil... Put a wee bit (oil) on your freshly cleaned bearing surfaces. While the FAN might not run a complete 15 to 20 years it did before... this procedure can add years to your FAN'S life-cycle. You might want to open it up and check the thermal fuse. This is usually a small cylindrical device with a cone at one end and wire leads coming out of both ends. It opens permanently when it gets over a certain temperature, and sometimes will open prematurely. Check it for continuity with an Ohmmeter. If it is open, then it is the problem. You can usually read the temperature, or a part number on the side. Look it up on the web, or go to your local electronics parts store. You can get one for a buck or two. Replace it by crimping it on to the wires, do not attempt to solder it, as the heat will likely destroy it. Good Luck.
