These units usually work for at least 5 years unless you're leaving them on the dash. Also the police have developed a stealth mode that pushed these type of detectors past their limits.
Try ask a friend to check with you to see if theirs is working at about the same location as you are.

• For some reason the internal calibration test has failed. It has to be sent to Beltronics

I'm sorry that the Bel 980 is displaying the error message. I suggest that you reset the unit and check the operation. Please follow the below steps to reset the Radar Detector.

I have the same problem. did you find a fix?

My radar was constantly scaling from low to high volume on my vector xr950 but now it does not power up at all. Has anyone got suggestions.

The radar detector goes through a quick diagnostic check at power up - not unlike a computer does at boot time. During this time, critical operational parameters are checked and should any be found out of spec, you receive a warning message - letting you know that all is NOT well. You can not expect to have the same level of warning or protection from this device while it is not operating as designed.

Your best best is to contact Beltronics Customer Support and review your options with a representative.
