I have an Avanti 2101W-1 the compressor is not starting it just gets hot. How can I test the compressor to see if it is good?
If it gets hot and will not start, the first think to check is the capacitor. The capacitor creates a favorable phase shift on the incoming power and it pushes the motor to spin it at the start winding. Without the capacitor, you don't get that push you need and it does what we call in the field "single phasing". While the term single phasing is usually only used in 3 phase power, you can technically single phase a compressor with single phase power if the capacitor fails because you are losing your favorable phase shift causing in to not spin and overheat. I hope I didn't lose you on my explanation, but I want to try to explain it in a way that is understandable.
You'll have a rating on the capacitor that has a number followed by MFD of uf. This is your microfarid number. Your allowed +/- 6% of the rate capacitor number before is is deemed bad.
You'll need to find someone with a meter that reads microfarids to be able to test the capacitor.

Avanti G2002CW oven or broiler won't stay lit once ignited
I had this same issue on this same model (which is how I happened upon this page). I'm still not exactly sure why, but the problem resolved when I pushed down on the knob more firmly than I normally would to light the stove, and it seemed to slide in a little deeper. After that, the oven would light.
