If you need the remote access code for the answering system, then the original (default) access code is given in the manual on page 50 (page 53 of the PDF) and on 55 (page 58 of the PDF). Unfortunately, if the remote access code has been changed, the default code will not work. As far as I know there is no way to reset the SL82318 remote access code to the factory default remotely. See page 50 of the manual to reset the phone's access code when you are using the handset. When you use the handset and start to change the code, the current remote access code will be announced first. Any voice mail system would be accessed using the phone number and codes from your telephone service provider. This information will not correspond to the answering system of the SL82318. Phones show "in use" when the line voltage is low because another set is off-hook, which also happens when the line is unplugged. In other words, that is normal. What happens when you do plug in the line? If it still shows in use then, the jack might be wired with reversed polarity. Try it elsewhere - someone else's house/office where the phones work "normally" to see what it does.

Reverse the polarity of the phone wires. -Some phones are sensitive to this; others do not seem to mind. I believe you should reverse the red and green.

This happened to me today!
Do the following in order:

1.take battery out of back of phone
2. unplug all phone lines from phone, then unplug all phone lines from wall
3. unplug ac from phone, then from wall
Wait 30 seconds.
In this order:
1. replace battery
2. replace phone line(s) to phone, then to wall
3. replace ac to phone, then to wall.

These steps solved it for me! Good luck.

Having the exact same problem. Did you ever get it solved?

Check your ground wire where the phone line comes into the junction box outside your house. It is either loose or corroded. It should be clean and clamped to a ground stake or water pipe like for an outdoor hose faucet. Check both ends of the wire. Without it, the phone system's impedance is so high that it will receive the 60 Hz hum from any electrical appliances around the house that are within a few feet of a line on an extension phone, answering machine or even an extension phone outlet wire running through a wall. These make great receiving antennas. good luck.

Try unplugging your corded base unit, then replug. It should reset. Then you'll be able to go in and delete those messages.

Take the back cover off your phone and remove the battery. You will find the IMEI on the label there.

Have you called customer service 1 (800) 222-3111, I'm sure this is an ongoing issue they can guide you through it.
