Legal characters are generally the letters A-Z and numbers 0-9, as well as a few general symbols such as , . / etc. ******* characters are such things as different fonts that cant be displayed or hidden characters. This can happen if you are cutting and pasting from a different source, it may be importing ******* characters that you cant see, but are part of the paste. Try deleting the whole input are and typing your answer with no cut and paste.

You can download the drivers from ASUS WEB site. Select your model motherboard/computer/laptop, and make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system. Please click on this link to their WEB support site : -

Right click on your speaker icon, click on volume mixer, check the slider, should be right up, also check recording and playback, if not working, you can troubleshoot sound problems, you can try this out.

Hi Joan. It sounds like a BIOS Error to me. Either you can try to insert a Bootable USB drive, with tools on it to fix the BIOS, or you can reset it the hard way, by removing the battery from the motherboard. Guides on how to do both, is easily found on YouTube. Note: For assorted programs to fix your pc during Boot, I'd suggest making a bootable USB with Hiren's BootCD on it. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ It has a lot of great tools, that also can be used after you've booted your machine. Like antivirus software, Harddrive repair programs, just to name a few. Hope this was somewhat helpful. - Matthew

Remove the power plug, remove the battery, HOLD the POWER button pressed for 2 full minutes. Your problem should be resolved then. when computers get stuck in hibernation it is hard to get them unstuck. The only way is to force the computer to shut down. Holding the power button pressed for 2 minutes clears the cache that builds up over time, it also releases any static electricity built up. When you are done the computer should boot normally.

Possible overheat detection due to fan/heat sink clogged with dust?
Try easy option of using air duster through exhaust slots.
Hard option, open case and brush and blow to clear.

Having done this on my own Asus laptop, the key is F5.

If the Power supply LED dims and flickers its either your motherboard circuit has been cut or there is a short in the laptop. The AC adapter is not the cause. Try this: Remove the battery, then press power button to drain all the current, then re-install battery and plug to adapter. If that doesn't work, then it's most likely the motherboard.

It's possible the laptop's screen is no longer working and there could be another problem with it booting. You may want to try booting the laptop while connected to an external monitor. Power up the laptop and see if anything out puts to the external monitor.
