Maybe the problem is the driver for your sound card is not installed. Download the sound driver of your sound card first.This will fix the problem

I want to tell you that once you upgrade windows 2000 to xp sometime it is happen that the sound card driver will not working properly even though your computer will show you that it is installed properly. But still it is not working i can suggested you that you can download the latest driver for your sound card and you can reinstall the driver this will help you to resolve your concern.

dear morshedy, the blue screen is usually comes when thereis a problem with the computer system files. and it could also result to sound problem. i wish you could start with solving the blue screen this can help us to solve the sound too.

Well, seems you have covered all the bases. But as I'm sure you have guessed by now,since it works in Linux its a driver issue. Sometimes the coding is crap no matter how its installed. Asound is not one of the "better" brands. which is why people buy those brands...because the coding/drivers are written much better. Have you tried taking out all the drivers and let windows TRY to emulate?

try uninstalling the driver and software for the card and restart, upon boot up it should automatically find new device (ie the asound card) and proceed with installing the driver again. JUST IN CASE MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE MODEL NUMBER FOR THE CARD SO IF THE DRIVER IS NOT UPDATED AUTOMATICALLY YOU WE CAN FURTHER ASSIST YOU IN FINDING THE CORRECT DRIVER FOR THAT PARTICULAR CARD. after reinstalling reboot again.
