If you killed the motor by jamming the blades, the mower belt may have come off or broke. Check to see if it is still in place. Also with the engine off, turn the blades by hand and see if the upper pullies turn.

Check the start relay (not starter solenoid) energizes during crank. If the start relay does not energize then the magneto kill shunt is closed, hence no spark.

Did you remove the rear screw located beside the dipstick tube?

Starter energize requires the following.

PTO - Off
Steering arms - Out
Ignition switch - Start position
Battery + fuse intact
Battery - fuse intact

Cycle PTO on/off, steering arms in/out. Check both fuses. Check battery voltage >12.0V.

Same problem! I think I actually had two issues, in that it lost power in reverse, and forward. I thought it was the transaxle, I replaced it didn't need to, as it didn't solve the issue. Replaced the drive belt which helped considerably in regaining forward power though the drive belt itself looked in good shape. The real answer to reverse slowing down has to do with the lever mechanism controlling the transaxle in the included picture, notice the nut and the slot that accompanies it. Loosen the nut slide the control lever all the way forward until it stops. Then we tighten the nut. This helps in my case. I found that in Reverse I had it all the way back until it stopped oh, but it wasn't actually all the way on the transaxle.

Is this your first attempt of the season to run it? Did you totally drain and run the machine out of gas last year? 10% Ethanol gas left in a carburetor for months is a killer

Get a haynes or clymer book for complete service n repair

The problem likely is with the SEAT/PTO RELAY not remaining energize. Look for open or disconnected wire (PURPLE) from the relay towards the ignition switch.

Ignition timing slightly out would be the main reason. Dirty spark plug is another Dirty carb is the last I thought of another. Failing battery. It doesn't have enough amps for cranking and spark.
