This sounds like a heat pump. If so, it sounds that the unit is not staying in the defrost mode. Heat pumps have a temp sensor so when the outdoor unit goes into a defrost mode, this temp sensor takes it out of the defrost mode when the temp reaches a set point to ensure there is no more frost. Usually about 51 degrees as a general rule. I would start there.

The reason for that is that the electronics need to be reset. To do this, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to OFF and unplug the unit form the wall outlet. Wait 15 minutes, before plugging the unit back in. Once you do, turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON and hopefully the unit's electronics have reset themselves and the unit will operate as it should.

Unless the memory programmer has a backup battery system, simply unplugging it from the wall outlet for 30 minutes to an hour may solve the problem and you can reset it any way you like.

do you have thermostst turned to cool, and the other question is do you have a programmerable thermostat if so you need to program your thermostat to the desired temp and the desire time of day and days of the week, and then press run program

Look fore some thing that is more enegry efficent.in the long it will save you more money

This is a common problem with any type air conditioner it is caused by to much humidity in the air when the unit is not big enough to Handel the cooling I would suggest getting a bigger unit, adding another unit or a dehumidifier, or setting the unit to a higher temp. then turning it down gradually to let the ice melt and take the humidity out gradually.
