My newly installed 5828V also thinks it is in battery mode all the time. The ADT tech found no 5 VDC at the plug coming from the basement. The installer had added wire to make the trip, so there were four splices. One of them had come loose. The ADT repair tech repaired the splice, but the keypad then failed entirely.
I wondered if the original installer had gotten the polarity backwards, but because there was the broken connection, the keypad was saved from destruction. (Operating on battery causing my symptom) When the ADT repairman fixed the splice, the wrong polarity condition may have blown the keypad.
