From what Dell shows in their downloadable manual there may be a fabled serial connector from the cradle and the travel cable. Dell does not offer it at this time. I only read once that Dell may offer if Mid Jan. I would bet that you would have better luck waiting for an aftermarket company to make one *IF* the unit supports serial. I honestly don't see why Dell wouldn't offer serial but there is always that chance that they will support USB only. I have yet to receive my unit.

Does not recognize my connection for active sync

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50 and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to a computer using a sync cable.
  1. p 1 The Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PCmag-glass_10x10.gif Companion CD.
  2. Step 2 The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
  3. Step 3 Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
  4. Step 4 Check the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync connection is successful.”
  5. Step 5 Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
  6. Step 6 Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.

My Dell PDA won't sync with my PC, although it used to?

1)If you get an error message from ActiveSync on your PC, it's one of a million things that can and do go wrong with another piece of Micr0$0ft'$ "finest". I wont even go there in this post. 2)If it just never gets seen by the PC, check your USB cable connection. 3)If the PDA doesn't even turn on and/or charge immediately when connected to the cradle, you may have a bad cradle. 3a)If the connector in the cradle feels lose or it DOES connect if you hold it a certain way, your cradle's broken. They're known for this.

Windows Vista will not recognize dell axim X3

I have had that problem with other USB devices i suggest trying a different USB port as the USB port you have used to connect the X3 to is most likely malfunctioning.

Can't go on internet

A few suggestions for you:

Have you already installed the drivers and software ? If so, check the manufacturer's website for driver/software updates and install them if available.

Check the router's firmware revision and update that if possible. Many wifi issues are the fault of the AP and not the Axim.

Some people say that open is more secure than shared, while others claim otherwise. The difference is in the authentication encryption. There are valid arguments to both, but the fact is that neither is secure. If you're concerned about security, wait for 802.11n, although it may be cracked before its spec finalization like most things “secure”...

Also, check if MAC filtering is checked or not. If it is checked, either enter the Axim's Mac address or simply disable it.

Help active sync will stay in limbo attempting to connect to cradled axim

Does your system detect the handheld? After you connect the cradle or cable to the computer, then you should be prompted to install drivers for the handheld. Make sure that Dell Pocket PC appears in the Device Manager.

Dell Axim doesn’t support serial connections?

There is another thread on this board where a number of people talked about serial connections and alternatives. I also want to connect my existing AirMap 100 GPS via serial cable. The Dell moderator (Rollie) pretty much put an end to that thread by stating: "A serial cable is not available @ this time and when one will be available is unknown"

Can the sync cable be used for regular serial or usb connections to external devices such as GPS devices?

No the Axim does not support Serial Interfaces at all. It also doesn't have USB Host capability.
