I just got my Dell Axim. I have some questions regarding some issues that I have seen with my Axim so far. First and foremost when the screen goes into "powersave" mode and dims...how do you get it to light back up? I press the button on top but nothing happens...it seems to "turn off", pressing the button makes something come back up but its still dim. Every now and then I get lucky and the screen lights up. Also...my unit does not seem to remember the date. For example, it did not switch over from 12/8/02 to 12/9/02. The time seems to work OK.
First, to dim/undim the screen, hold down the power button for a few seconds. A quick press will turn it on/off. Also, when dimmed, if you tap the screen, it should be fully lit. FYI...to change the brightness in either the plugged-in or battery mode, hold in the scroll dial on the left-hand side and press the navigation button (big round one on the front) either up (brighter) or down (dimmer). As for the time, tap Start >> Settings >> System (tab) >> Clock and see if your time is off by 12 hours.
Start-Settings-Sysem (Tab)-Frontlight-Config There are settings for external power and battery power. Check the box for turn on if the screen is tapped so its easy to turn it back on.
If you hold the power button in for a couple of seconds, it turns off the backlighting. Just hold the button in again for a couple of seconds to turn the backlighting back on. A quick press of the power button turns the Axim off or on. When your screen goes into power saving mode (automatically) just tap the screen with the stylus and it will "light up". There is a control panel that allows you to adjust the properties of the power saving mode to better fit your needs. BTW, if you are new to the PocketPC, it would be good to take some time and read the manual. It is well written, concise and will save you a lot of frustration and get you using your new Axim much quicker.
Not sure about the screen thing, I would set it to always stay at a certain brightness no matter what, that's what I do on my pda. As for the date, double check the time, I'd bet it was AM instead of PM and vice versa? If the time is 12 hours early, it might appear that the date isn't changing even though it would, just at 12noon instead of 12am, but you don't let it get that far...
