I have tried to open the case of ViewSonic VA1930WM LCD monitor. I have removed all visible screws and released all clips around the side. However only the front "frame" releases and is loose except for the area around the switch which is still attached by something. The plastic back has not even budged. Disassembly of this monitor must be very different from the one (VG930M )that is pictured on several sites and videos. What am I missing? Several others have apparently posted the same problem (eg. Feb 2011) and still haven't found the answer as far as I can tell.

You just have to remove the black plastic cover over the stand hinge, then you will see the stand mounting screws.

There is no exact instruction, but first thing you have to do is to remove the stand, then starting at the bottom edge of the case using thin flat blade screw driver to pry open the case up and then work your way around the case, you can also look at YOUTUBE, just search for 'how to repair LCD monitor', 'How to open LCD monitor'
Bad caps (leaking/bulging top) are common failures.

I personally haven't worked on this monitor, but most monitors are held together with plastic clips on either side of the casing.

After removing the stand and all other screws, you will need to use a small flat-head screwdriver (or something of that nature) to pry apart the clips. Find the crease/gap in the plastic where the casing of the monitor comes together. Insert the screwdriver and gently twist and pry the casing apart. When you hear the first click/snap indicating the first clip has come apart, follow the gap with the screwdriver, prying it apart each time you reach an area of resistance. Do this all the way around the monitor.

Keep in mind that after you open up all the clips, the LCD panel and boards may be screwed either the front casing or most likely the back casing. So you must first unscrew the mounting screws inside the monitor to remove the back cover. Also be careful unhooking ribbon or speaker cables that attach the circuit boards of the monitor to the front casing.

First, lay the tv/monitor on its screen on something level and soft as not to damage the screen. Remove any visible screws that seem to attach the base to the unit. Some models you have to look under the base for pins orso to push together to slide the base from the stand, only then you could reach the 1 screw holding the monitor to the stand....Once stand removed, remove any screws you see holding the monitor casing together, usually only a few screws since they are mostly held together by plastic "clips"...Once screws are removed, then gently insert a flat(screwdriver orso) inbetween the case?housing, repeat this all the way around the case/housing till completely loose....You will prob have a few wires or maybe a ground wire that you would have to remove before completely being able to seperate both sides(front case, back case)..Sometimes you might have to unscrew and remove the skinny washer/nut around the cable input orso..

replace the monitor

You need to isolate the problem to see if there's a problem with the monitor or with the sound card of the computer.

To isolate this problem, please try the steps below:

1. Make sure that the monitor is properly connected to the computer.
2. Check the volume of the monitor and the volume properties of the computer.
3. Try to connect your monitor into a known working computer.

in a similar situation the solution was an Ipod case opener used along the perimeter to release the plastic catches..

Remove the four screw (one in each corner) and then using a fine wide flat blade you need to prise open the case at each side mid-point. The case is clippe together with plastic lugs that retains the rear cover. I started on the right side side and clipped it free, then the top, and finally the left side and it all come away easy then. They are very tight to remove the first tiem your do it.

It's not glued!!!! It's clipped together...and DON'T take out the screws first...

First, turn the monitor upside down and look at its thin edge. See where the grey bezel meets the black case? That's your clip point, all the way around the monitor. The reason you want to start here? This monitor is VERY tight, and there's a good chance you will mar the plastic, so it might as well be in the least visible place.

Next, fit a plastic trim removal tool (you have one of those, right? Right!? :) ) in between the black and grey plastic, halfway along the length of the monitor. If you have difficulty getting it in, run it back and forth until you find a loose point, but you'll eventually have to come back to the tight spot.

Here, there's a little bit of finesse required...you have to pry the grey part (which I will start calling the "bezel") gently upward, not away from the black plastic (which I will call the "case"), perpendicular to it. This will pull a clip up out of its slot. When you feel the clip release, now you can move it slightly away from the case, but don't remove the trim tool. Keep unclipping the rest of that side.

Once you've gotten the hang of it, do the next side. This bezel is particularly tight, so don't start at the edge...you will definitely damage it. Once you've gotten two sides loose, the whole job becomes easier, but still stay patient and careful, because there's a lot of potential for damage.

Now that you've gotten the entire bezel off (and the hard part is over with), hold the LCD in place as you turn the assembly face down onto a soft cloth, like a blanket or comforter. Now you can remove the four screws from the back.

Lift the case off and remove the two screws holding the switch assembly. This will lift off easily.

Lastly, partially remove the silver tape holding the electronics case on the back, carefully remove the connectors (remembering their positions, of course), and you're ready to play electronic doctor. I'm posting this with my newly repaired L194WT. :)

This is for a Viewsonic VX900. The bottom bezel with the button unclips.Unplug the connector, and put aside. ( Dont pull on the wires) Then there are two screws that are removed, and the grey frame around the monitor comes off next. Then remove the 4 bottom screws, and the two top tiny screws and the LCD comes away from the back. Remove the shielding, and replace your components. Good Luck !!
