I recently got a DSC-P72 for my sister and after taking a still picture you know how usually you get to see the picture you took for like 2 seconds? Well on this one it's like .5 seconds and if the flash fired then the screen goes blank while it recharges then comes on again when it's done recharging. Is this normal? I know my S85 is a different camera but it doesn't do this and I thought this behaviour would trickle down the Sony line.
The camera screen is always black while in use
If you go into Setup on the P72 and turn "power save" to "off", you'll get the LCD display back in a flash, so to speak. It won't have to wait for the flash to recharge. You still have to hit the review button (arrow to the left) to review the picture shot, but you can do it while flash is recharging. Of course, this burns up the batteries .
Yes, that is normal for the P72 to black out. I only know from experience of playing with it, not from a technical reason for it, but if I had to make an educated guess I would say it's because you're not getting as much power out of AA's as you do from a lithium-ion (like the one you have in your s85), therefore it takes longer, and most likely all of the power it can put out to get that flash charged; it does take a lot of power, as you probably know after about 40-50 shots you're through a set of AA's. As for the short picture review delay after shooting, also normal from what I've seen; it seems like the newer Sony cameras, especially the lower priced models have a very short review period. Of course, as was mentioned you can always just press the the left button out of the four buttons centered around the enter button in order to do a quick review. I personally don't own the P72, so if one of you P72 owners out there experiences something different, we can find out, but I think it's safe to assume your camera is acting quite normally.
