Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC40 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
Hello. I'm new to camcorders, having bought this Sony 2 months ago. Some very kind people in this forum suggested Windows Movie Maker when I posted problems about transferring movies to the computer. Now, I hope, I can get some help on transferring the pictures from the memory stick. I have a Compaq 5310US with Win XP-home SP2. I've upgraded the original HD to 80GIG and added a second 80GIG, so I have plenty of room. My problem is, when I connect the camcorder (via USB) and switch it to memory stick, the computer is supposed to recognize a new drive, but it doesn't. Now, I also have a digital camera, and the computer DOES recognize that when I plug it in. I did install the drivers from Sony. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks much!
I' and many others, encountered the same problem. I've searched for a solution, and luckily, I found one that works for me. Hope it'll work for you as well: Go into your windows\inf folder, find the two msdv files ('msdv.inf.1' and 'msdv.pnf.1') and remove the .1 from the filenames. Your camcorder should install fine.
