Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV22 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
I have the sony dcr-trv22 camcorder and it says in the specs that it can be used as a web-cam. But it does not say anywhere in the manual how to do this and I have tried everything on my computer with the usb and firewire and codecs and software etc. but I cant figure it out. Does anybody know how to use the TRV22 as a web-cam?
Download the usb driver from sony support site and install that first - yes it says the camera does not support streaming! Of course it does! Connect the camera now NOT earlier. If you do get the new hw detected prompt point to the downloaded driver section on your pc and navigate to the relevant os section e.g. xp or 2000... you should be good now. Make sure you select camera source in your im software.

First be sure that "USB STREAM" is on. This can be found in the menu for either "CAMERA" or "VCR" menus: FN -> MENU -> toolbox icon -> USB STREAM Secondly, make sure there is no tape in the camera. This disables the "auto sleep" mode so your camera doesn't constantly shut off after 4 min. FYI: you can also use it as a "webcam" in VCR mode to show the person a previously recorded section of tape. Also you can run other video through the unit. :In CAMERA mode: FN -> ETC -> DISPLAY -> LCD This allows a secondary unit or VCR or whatever to connect via RCA jacks to play across your "webcam". I take video in HDTV on my Canon TX1 and show the clips to my friends on Skype through my TRV22.

It?s supposed to be very easy. You should connect you camera through the USB port, turn it on, and then you have a new webcam. Maybe the cable or the connection is busted. Daniel
