Its a battery saver...just take out the battery and it wont shut off
Disabling your camcorder's auto shut off This can be a frustrating problem.steps are... 1. Remove any videotapes in camcorder. 2. Remove memory sticks, cards, or other media. 3. Power off the camcorder. 4. Remove the battery if on battery power. 5. Plug in the camcorder AC adapter. 6. Power on the camcorder. This should work for most brands of camcorders. good luck.
I have a Sony dcr-trv22 and I found that if you use it as a webcam in the camera mode and if you take the tape out, it will not turn off after five minutes.
Just FYI, www.silentwitness.com has Sony modify the camcorders for use in mobile applications so they don't shutdown. I have no cure for this, but I do know the stock models are programmed to do this to prevent overheating. It has to do a lot with the warranty. i.e. you have a one year warranty. The unit can't (without modifications) run 24x7. Said modification almost triples the price of the camera.
