When hotsyncing this morning, the ViewLog gave me the following error message: "- Some handheld records were not copied to your PC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again.
Desktop = 1545, Handheld = 1531"
I found over 1200 "phantom" tasks on my PDA, all with no information, no description, no priority, no due date, all in the Unfiled category. I selected all of these and deleted them.
BUT, in addition to those being gone, the vast majority of all my other tasks (of which there are many in several categories) also disappeared. Some tasks remained - they appear to be in all categories and appear to be those due in the next 7 days (but maybe not even all of those).
???
Is there any hope? They are missing from both the handheld and the desktop.

Re:
Sounds to me like your To Do (Tasks) database became corrupted somehow. Unless you have a PC backup or have XP's rollback feature turned on, I think your data may be gone.

Yes, you can use it but DO NOT INSTALL "Documents to go". The version of this software is not compatible with Vista and Sync will hang at it.
If you have already installed it, just -> remove programs -> uninstall "Documents to go"
or:
Disable (do nothing option) sync of "Documents to go" using the application, not from HotSync Manager.
Many factors can influence the synchronization process. you will have to go step by step from this:
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(25004)
Good luck.
Unless you synced the palm on another computer, the palm only can back up the information when synced.
So if you sync it and the computer overwrites the handheld, the information never made it to the computer and thus cannot be restored.
The only thing you could check would be the backup folder in the palm directory under your profile name. Palm puts all of the .prc/.pdb files in there when you sync.
This morning I downloaded LifeDrive Update 1.0, and when I did a HotSync afterwards, I got an error message saying,
Handheld Tasks application database version not supported.
Handheld Notes application database version not supported.
Now my contacts, memos, tasks, calendar entries and possibly other items are all gone!! This is the core data that is the reason why I use a PDA! I would be totally distraught, except that the data does still seem to exist in Outlook on my PC.
I am running Outlook 2002, SP3 on a WinXP machine. Can anyone help to fix this problem?
thanks,
Check the USB and hotsync logs when you next try this. It will show what it did or couldn't do. That should give you an idea why the conduit isn;t talking to outlook. It may be a security setting in windows or outlook or the conduit needs to be setup.
I was ready to give up completely. Uninstalled, reinstalled, nothing worked.
Here is what I did to resolve sync errors:
1. Perform a hard reset on the Palm
2. Go to the Palmone folder on your hard drive (C:\Program Files|PalmOne. Look for the Backup folder. Rename this folder Backup Old.
3. Connect the Treo to your computer.
4. Right click the Hotsync icon in the taskbar and click Custom.
Change the four Outlook conduits (Calendar, Contacts,Tasks,Memos) to Desktop overwrites Handheld.
5. Run a Hotsync with the Treo. It should sync without errors. If you need to install additional applications you can add them now.
This worked for me. I hope it helps with your errors.
Hard-reset your Palm to erase all data (that usually involves pushing the small "reset" button on the back, then pressing the "power on" button until the device boots, and then pressing "up" to confirm the hard-reset)
After that, sync your palm. The sync software will ask if you want to use your existing profile or create a new one. Create a new one. Then the program will offer to sync your Outlook profile with your Palm. Click on "ok", and a message asking you to accept to sync your Outlook data with more than one profile will pop-up. Click on OK, again... and that's it!
