Whats the difference between soft and hard reset? Does a hard reset restore your PPC to the original setup when you first turned on your system. Also I thought you could backup up your PPC to your hard drive on your computer using the backup program that comes with the X5. When I go to use it, the computer is not listed as a device. Only the memory cards are listed.
Correct, a hard reset restores the PPC to its origional state. Soft resets are similar to rebooting your desktop computer.
You can backup your device with either ActiveSync or the included utility. I don't have a device so I can't give you exact steps, but I believe what you are seeing is where the device will store the backup. You have to put it on a storage card in most cases, not back on the device.

There are 2 ways to restore the phone. Soft Reset and Hard Reset. If you are able to boot the phone and dial a number, than soft reset is enough.
If phone asks for security code and you don't know the code, then hard reset is necessary. I guess you need a hard reset. It can be restored, BUT ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED! If you have important data on your phone (Photos, documents, etc.) everything will be erased. If you are ready to reset the phone anyway, do the following:
You got two ways to reset Nokia e5. Soft reseting : Soft reseting can restore Nokia e5 user setting and soft reset will not erase any data like image , sound, video. Press *#7780# on the screen and after few seconds soft reset will start. Hard reset : This option restores the original oprating system from the rom. Press *#7370# on the screen and after few seconds you may put the security code and reseting process will begin. It`s recommended to back up data before hard reset. BYE !!!
You might try hard resetting your phone: Hold down the two softkeys (the ones with the white dots) and keeping them pressed, insert the stylus in the soft reset button hole. Keep all the keys pressed and it shall hard reset your phone to the factory settings.
NOTE: Hard resetting will delete all your data and restore the phone to factory conditions.
hi i think you must know the difference between hard and soft reset.
soft reset is the small hole you put the edge of your stylus to reset the device without erasing anything. (software restart)
hard reset (hardware restore) is:
switch the on/off slider button to OFF. keep the joystik pushed UP and without leaving the joystick slide the from OFF to ON and wait about 30 seconds.
do all that while connected to the power charge. I'd prefer you do that with a wall charger, and not with a USB cable connected to your computer (we dont like this charging state from USB ports)
let me know what happened after that. if possible, upload a video showing us what you did.
Okay take out battery and put phone on charger .. then try a hard reset . and then go to a soft reset. after that put battery back on and soft retset and see if it works .
No when you hard reset the phone by pressing the reset button while holding the Soft keys it will keep the Program Codes. This will delete all info on phone.
Press both the right and left softkeys on the front of the phone while you are pressing the 'soft' reset button on the bottom of the phone. Press Y and then the space bar, let the phone reset and follow prompts, after 3 seconds, it will install the sprint software. I recommend a soft reset after that. Sync, and you're ready to go again!
