I have a photopc 3100z and I've tried to control it by a line-command
software (usb version) that I've downloaded from:
http://www.math.ualberta.ca/imaging/
... an enhanced version (with USB support) of Eugene G. Crosser's original photopc driver for the Nikon Coolpix 990 and Coolpix 950 Digital Cameras. This software also works with many Epson photopc series ...
When I execute the program photopc.exe this show follow messages:
Open usb_port filed
My intention is to use my camera as a webcam...
Is it possible ?

Yes. Try the eagle eye optic zoom. Made in the UK. This is a 5x converter that works well with the 3000z. Very little vignetting. It has a manual focus ring, or you can use the 3000z autofocus.
I have a 3100z and you are right that alkaline batteries do not last long. The thing to do is buy a couple of sets of NiMH rechargable batteries and they last much longer. I,ve just been on holiday and had no problems at all with the batteries. (Although the camera does not give much warning when they need replacing).
If you have a version of Image Expert from a different camera, printer, or other product, make sure you install the version of Image Expert included on your PhotoPC 3100Z Software CD-ROM and use it when you are connecting to your camera.
When you take pictures under certain artificial lighting conditions, the colors may be slightly distorted. You can use your Image Expert software to adjust the colors.
