Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

The fan motor is on all the time with the controls shut off. I have to shut the unit off with the main breaker. The ac works but again the fan never shuts off. On the circuit board the LED flashes 8 times, stops and flashes 8 times, etc. This is a Carrier unit.

The indoor fan or the outdoor fan? If it is the indoor fan the thermostat may be wired incorrectly or shorted. If the red wire and green wire in your thermostat maintain contact, the indoor fan will run all the time.

It is te indoor fan that comes on. Stays on for a couple minutes shuts off for a couple seconds and repeats until I turn the breaker off. The thermostat is four years old and has worked without a hitch till now. Thermostats are cheep compared to the circuit board, I will try that first.
    Thanks

Check the unit for a high temperature limit switch, usually a round bimetal disc or a square plate that
would insert into the unit. If the switch is bad, it opens up and the fan will run no matter what. Complete the circuit with jumper wire, if fan shuts off
replace switch

Heater blower stops working

Hmm, a problem that I have not encountered before. My best guess is that some component within the heater setup is getting overheated and then it shuts off to avoid further damage. If the heater runs each time you start the car and then turns off during your travels, then this might be the case.

Secondly, there are circuit breakers located in the fuse box. These are silver and are about twice the size of a standard fuse. Unlike a standard fuse that blows once and is done, circuit breakers get hot and "trip". After they cool down the connection is made again. Look to see if a circuit breaker (sometimes labeled CB) is in the fuse box and serves the heater. You may want to get a new one.

Blower never stops. AC outside jammed to stay on???

You need to call someone who truely knows what they're doing. From your decription, the person you had out should not be working on units. You have a problem most likely caused be the person that installed the new motor and these units are not designed to be worked on by the homeowner. There are hazards that could cause damage or injury.

Duo therm ac not working

Make sure the fan blade turns freely when off. Not bound up anywhere. Check or replace the fan motor capacitor.

My outside ac unit fan will not blow?

You might have a bad fan relay. Wait til the unit cools down and then restart. If the fan comes on then the fan is going out. Shuts off when it heats up.

My duo therm roof top camper air conditioner just shut off and will not come back on. Can hear a click when turning on now but nothing else. Note that heater will not come one either.

The click that you are hearing is the relay control board in the rooftop unit. This means that you are getting 12V to the board. It sounds like you are not getting 120V to the AC unit. Check the breakers in the breaker panel to make sure they are OK. If they are fine, then turn off the AC for 5 to 10 minutes and try again. There is a thermal protection device in the unit that prevents you from turning it right back on after a shut down. Try putting the thermostat to fan only operation. If the fan does not come on in fan only mode, then you have thrown a breaker.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Fan will not shut off, but compressor does

hi! there, continous fan motor when unit was shutt off, since supply source was already cut off specially on fan condenser motor, the supply of your motor was came from relay mounted on your circuit board control panel, there a holding coil to hold the connection between your fan and ac source, shut off breaker for ac unit first before diagnosing ac unit, try to check this out the relay is still activated giving ac source when shut off,the contactor on relay holding your ac supply was shorted, try to check the connection the circuit activating condenser fan relay, eliminate the short circuit, using multi tester test rod,use manual diagram for circuit control board to lessen complicated diagnosing, focus on fan relay ac source then isolate checking the short circuit replace defective relay, contact point of relay are not repairable.take necessary precaution on checking to avoid shock, this a hard task i would suggest that certified ac technician w/ full knowledge of instrumentation should do this.thank's for selecting fixya and have a nice day.

Compressor on ac unit

It could be a relay for the compressor is sticking in the run position.
If it is only about one week old take it back to the dealer for service or call them and tell them your problem. This should be covered by warranty and the dealer can refer you to someone authorized to do the work.
