Alot of times this is when the battery or SIM card for whatever reason gets loose inside and for a second or two loses contact. Believe me, I see it everyday. What happens is sometimes when the factory sends the battery new with phone in the box, it is a bit to small. The door or sleeve that holds the SIM card in (for phones that take the sim cards)do not actually hold the SIM card in-they only hold it partially in-the battery does the rest. So if the battery comes loose, alot of times so does the SIM card. Try this, take your SIM card out, along with the battery, look for anything that might be loose. Then put the SIM card in, then take a piece of paper underneath the battery. This will help the battery keep contact, and is just a test to see if this solves your problem.
try cleaning the sim with a pencil eraser softly
and replace the sim in the phone.
I f you still have the same prob then your sim reader on the board is not working and it will require a hands on technician
