Hello there, i experienced the same thing some months back with a sony Xplod although an older model. Eventually what i had to do was replace the face plate.Apparently the face plate had a system error therefore all the controls seized working and therefore could not operate anything. Although a tech said he could fix the plate but he never came through. After getting a replacement face plate the unit functioned perfect and i still use it till date. Try getting a replacement if it works for you but best locate a shop where you can get the replacement so you test it before buying.
Hope this support has been helpful?

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

The circuit board can be faulty or there's a blown capacitor inside that's why this issue occured. I'm pretty sure that it will cost you to have this fixed. I suggest that you purchase a new head unit for the parts and labor replacement can be as much as having a new one.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Hi,
Its because the connection of frond panel (face plate) of your system and the unit is not proper .Do one thing remove the frond panel of your system its a detachable one. If you watch the back side of the frond panel you can see some gold plated connection . Clean the connection one by one with a cloth. Also try to clean the connection on the unit. After that insert the frond panel in the system and check, You can use Isopropyl alcohol ( IPA) solution to clean the contacts of both side. It will give a better result. Be sure to use a glouse before using IPA. Take a clean cloth and drop 3 or 4 drops of IPA in to it and clean the contact of the detachable frond panel. When you move to clean the contact of the head unit, be sure to remove the battery supply. Because if the battery is connected there will be always power in the contacts of head unit even if the key is in off position. Remove the battrey positive terminal first. Then apply another 3 or 4 drops of IPA in to the cloth and clean the conacts of the head unint. Leave it for 5 minutes to dry the IPA fully. Then connect the battery terminal back in position. Attach the frond pannel and check. Remember on thing, when you remove the battery terminal all the settings in the unit will go to factory default. You have to set one by one according to your preference as earlier.

After that also if the problem remain then you have to check the 12V at the B+ and ACC terminal at the palyer power connecter. If any aone of the voltage is missing then you have check the corresponding fuse. If its ok then the problem is inside your system. Probably there will be problem with regulator transistor for the display setion. Or the Voltage regulator ic.
ok

    hi,
It may be because of some error in the frond panel display driver IC( integrated circuit). This IC take commands from the swiches when pressed and send the same to the system control IC inside the player. Thats why it get hang at the time when it startig to displaying. As there is no repairable part inside the frond panel , You have to check with some other frond panel of the same model. Thats the only way to finalise the fault.
Can you try one more thing . You can see there will be 4 or 5 screws behind the frond panel. Remove thes screws frond panel and remove tha back cover . There is a spring loaded knobe inside so when you open be careful. don't miss that spring. Now remove the board from the case. You will see a display driver IC smd IC in that board. Using the IPA and a tooth bresh ( drop 4or 5 drops of IPA in to the bersh) clean the back side of the board and the IC leags. Do it twise. Then leave the board in sun shine for some time (5 munites). It will dry the board properly. After that reasseble the frond panel. don't forget to palace the knobe and spring back. When you close the back cover you shoudld be careful because you have to propely palce the other end of the sprig loaded knobe in to the small hole in the back cover. Then screw it back. Attach the frond panel to your system and check.

    ok

Remove the face plate. There is a reset button that looks like a small pin hole. Use a ball point pen or a paper clip and press that button. Reattach the face plate and try to power up the unit.

Have you checked the fuses? There are two power lines going to the unit. One is a constant hot which keeps the time and presets. The other lead is for the radio power that is hooked up to the accessories switch for the car.

It must be a defective unit. Here is a link to Sony support.

Can you use a cdx7005x face plate on a cdx gt520 body

You generally cannot interchange headunits and faceplates, they often speak different "languages".
The reason yours lights up when down means the power pins are in similar positions but the other pins don't necessarily correspond.
