Don't lose hope, push the end of a paperclip into the tiny hole at the bottom of the unit. If that doesn't work, do it again while holding the play ad power buttons in at the same time. Yes, I know you need three hands to do this. That should bring up a recovery menu. First try reboot, then try clean-up. Try to avoid the other options if you don't have full back-up of all your music files.

Thanks a million CR - I know it's only a cheap little player but it is ideal for work. I never even knew that little reset hole was there! worked perfectly. Thanks again

ZEN will not power up

First back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and make sure it is disconnected from the computer. Then press and hold the play/pause button and turn it on simultaneously. It will then enter recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format and it should work like normal. If it freezes again, then you may need a firmware update.

Creative Zen M:vision - can't turn on/off, permanent blue light

Well, i didn't charge mine over night, was listening to it in the evening while doing some chores and all of a sudden it stopped playing, Blank screen and permanent Blue light. I tried to turn if off but it didn't respond so i left it. In the morning, it went off itself (guess the battery was low). So i connected to the computer and inserted the ZEN CD. As i was exploring the CD looking for a solution, then all of a sudden the screen came up with a note "Rebuilding..." after 5 secs it came on. With all my files intact! I hope this wud be helpful, You could give it a shot, after all there's nothing to loose!

Creative zen won't turn on

had same prob to the T...found this post and it fixed it...it's the computer not the zen...once I did the two steps my zen started charging and turned on...go figure...the flashing blue light doesn't mean it is charging.

If you have windows set to do automatic updates, you most likely had a windows update installed that caused this conflict with Win Media Player 11. No fix has been posted by Microsoft yet, so the only workaround is to Uninstall/Rollback Windows Media Player 11. Goto <Control Panel<Add/Remove Programs and remove Windows Media Player 11. Follow prompts, restart computer when prompted to. Also uninstall Windows Media Player 11 Runtime application following same procedure above.
This will roll your Windows Media Player back to version 10 or 9, whichever you had installed prior to version 11. You will need to re-configure Windows Media Player again.

Your Zen should now be recognized by WMP and Creative software. You probably need to upgrade your firmware at this point, follow the instructions on upgrading your firmware, and you should be good to go.

This is a windows problem, not a creative problem. Dont blame Creative for the screwed up hotfixes that Microsoft puts out on a regular basi

Zen problems

it may be in a low power state, try a different usb cable and hook it up to a desktop computer (laptop ports are sometimes not powerful enough to charge the battery when it is in a low-power state). I had this exact same problem and that fixed it!

Also check out creative.com/support and look at their support forumns

CREATIVE ZEN GONE HAYWIRE

sounds like it might be either a bad firmware driver, which can be erased and reinstalled via the USB connection to your computer and a download from creative. Or the battery has gone bad, in which case you have to have it sent to creative for Repair.

Creative Zen Vision M - Dead Machine

unfortunately, the best solution is to send it back to creative for them to check it out. this sometimes happens when the player has been unused for too long and battery "under charges", which there is a solution.but seeing as u used it under normal conditions, that cant be the problem

Creative zen 8gb wont switch on or recharge

I had the same problem. Tried recharging from both PC and mains recharger. Tried re-setting and re-charging. All I got was the blue charging light pulsing on and off. The ZEN would not charge. Eventually I tried a Software re-set. (Slide the on/off button to the On position and hold it there whilst hitting the re-set button). I then tried re-charging and everything was fine. (It did take about 10 - 15 mins recharing from the PC before the device did actually respond, but that is normal after it is fully discharged)

Cannot guarantee the above will work every time or for everyone, but it saved me returning it to Creative and an eight week wait.

Totally blank, cannot turn off

When your blue light does not blink, but is constantly on, this indicates hardware failure. It is most likely to be your motherboard that is corrupt and will need to be replaced. There are repair services that can replace your motherboard or offer to sell you a replacement motherboard. You should look into it.

Zen V Plus problems with brightness

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok
