E1705 laptop--tried to install a XP 3 pack, but it wouldn't install. Now can't get into windows even in safe mode. The driver comes up as a problem, but I don't know how to delete it from the system...

Since you are not able to boot to normal mode or safe mode, you have a couple of options available, one is a repair install of windows (may fix but risk of data loss) , second is a manual system restore listed below.
To perform system restore in the Recovery console
Step 1: Boot the system with the CD (Tap F12 while booting and select boot from CD)
Step 2: At "Welcome to setup screen" Press R
Step 3: Select the appropriate path for windows and press enter
If it asks you for the administrator password, type the known password and press enter or just hit enter
Step 4: We will now see the Prompt c:\windows
Step 5: type cd ..
Step 6: type cd system~1\_resto~1 and press Enter
Step 7: If "access denied"
Step 8: type cd windows\system32\config and enter
Step 9: Type ren system system.bak and enter
Step 10: restart the computer and get back to recovery
console (follow step 1 - 5)
Step 11: type cd system~1\_resto~1 and press Enter
Step 12: type dir
it will list you restore points
                        (e.g. RP1, RP2, RP3, RP4, etc...)
Step 13: select the one from the list except the last one say RP4
Step 14: type cd RP3 (or RP2 or RP1 or RPn) and enter
Step 15: type cd snapshot and enter
Step 16: type copy _registry_user_.default c:\windows\system32\config\.default and enter
Step 17: type copy _registry_machine_security c:\windows\system32\config\security and enter
Step 18: type copy _registry_machine_software c:\windows\system32\config\software and enter
Step 19: type copy _registry_machine_system c:\windows\system32\config\system and enter
Step 20: type copy _registry_machine_sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam and enter
step 21: type cd \
Step 22: type cd windows\system32\config and enter
Step 23: type ren system.bak system and enter
Step 24: type exit and enter
Step 25: the computer restarts and the system will be
successfully restored
