Lexmark X4650 InkJet Printer Logo
Anonymous Posted on Aug 02, 2011

When I attempt to print anything from my computer, the process begins as expected, then stops while the %-completed message is showing on my computer. In this message, there is a ? (question mark) over each of the two print cartridge icons (black and color) rather than showing the percent of ink remaining. I can print a test page directly from the printer just fine. I tried turning off the printer. I tried rebooting the computer. I tried downloading the printer software from Lexmark. I'm on a home wireless network - that signal strength shows as "excellent" on the printer. (this question was the same as another on your site, but the solution shown did not work for me)

The link provided list of things I already checked out/tried and did not have a specific solution to my specific issue.

  • Anonymous Aug 02, 2011

  • Anonymous Aug 02, 2011

  • Anonymous Aug 03, 2011

Hello, Corinne.

For some reason, even though your printer is seen by your wireless network, not seen by your computer.

From your responses, I was unable to tell if you have:

Removed and reinstalled the Lexmark x4650 on your computer

If you have reinstalled and are still experiencing problems, set up your wireless printer on your network again. Let me know if your don't have the setup instructions. Then, you may need to reinstall the printer on your computer.

Hope this helps.

When you said that you reinstalled the printer software are you referring to reinstalling on your computer ?

I was also suggesting that the printer itself be set up again on your network. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

  • Anonymous Aug 02, 2011

Oh, another suggestion, Corinne. If you are still experiencing problems and the wireless printer is still getting a good signal strength (green and not flashing orange), set up another computer on your network and printer to test.

  • Anonymous Aug 03, 2011

Hmmm. So, your printer is set up OK since at least one computer is printing to it. And, you've reinstalled the printer software on that desktop. I'm going in a different direction and think there may be an operating system problem with the desktop: possibly malware. Try to run some anti-malware software, such as malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.com ). It's free. Download, update and run the software and remove any problem programs.

Were there any recent updates, after which the printing problem occurred
? If so, I'm going to suggest System Restore. To access System Restore
in Windows 7: Open the Start Menu. Click on All Programs, Accessories,
System Tools, and System Restore. Go to System Restore and choose a date
when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your
updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.

I'm assuming (?) that you are not experiencing any other problems with this desktop and you can access the Internet OK. If you are experiencing other problems, such as an abrupt slowdown, either Malwarebytes or System Restore should resolve.

I'm heading to bed, soon. So, if these suggestions don't work, I'll get back to you as soon as I can

Great ! I'm glad it worked. Thanks for using FixYa. And, now you have 2 tools to use (Malwarebytes and System Restore) to help keep your system running smoothly.

Hi,

According to your problem reset the printer first and clear the memory. Delete all pending print job then reboot the printer and the computer both. If it doesn't help you then you have to change your cartridges. Because printer shows clearly that there is some problem in cartridges but it doesn't show the cartridges are empty, because there is a percent of ink present in the cartridge. But it is not enough for your document print. It may take the test page print job but cannot support the document printing. So you have to change the cartridges.

SOURCE: When I attempt to print

schoolcounse,

This sounds like corrupt software and you need to reinstall it. Rather than reinstall the software from the CD which came with the unit I would recommend getting the most up to date version at the manufacturers website and downloading and installing it. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6370947-install_printer_without_install_cd which will walk you through the process.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Canon Pixma iP 6600D printing problem.. went to print a scanned document .... paper began to feed in askew from autopaper feeder . Printing process stopped. the process was repeated a couple more times...

To fix the paper feed problem, Clean / rub each roller with a damp cloth with a dab of detergent.
Check for paper residue , especially near the paper empty flag,
Then reset the printer:
First power off the printer. Next, while holding STOP/RESET button, power on the printer.
While holding POWER button, release STOP/RESET button. Then push STOP/RESET button twice.
Wait about 20-30 second until the LED shows "0?. Then push STOP/RESET button four times.
Finally push POWER button twice. Last step is to turn off the printer by pressing the POWER button one last time.

My computer wont boot up the fan and light turn on for a second then goes right off....

With the little bit of information presented, it appears that this is possible a power supply problem. One thing you can try is to unplug the power adapter from the laptop, remove the battery, then plug the power adapter back into the laptop. Then try to turn it on. If everything comes up normally, then the problem points, potentially, to the battery.
Hope this helps!
