Question about Olympus Camedia C-220 Zoom Digital Camera

Camera Stopped Working

I have an Olympus Camedia c-220 zoom. I pulled back the shutter but the lens won't come out automaticaly, there are no obstructions and it has been working fine until today. Also on the screen at the back it says D: then 1E13 and underneath that 1E12, I've looked all through the instruction manual but can't find anything relating to this. I can't afford to take it to a repair shop because I'm a pensioner and money is tight. The camera was a present and the warranty has only just run out. Please could somebody help me, I'm new to digital cameras but I'm enjoying it so much I'll be lost without my camera!

Ok so this is a bit late to help probably but the same thing happened to my camera (exectly the same make and model) two weeks ago. I had been on the beach and suspect that some fine sand had got into the mechanism but do not know for certain. I have got it working again by unscrewing the camera (watch out for the screw hidden under the rubber cover for the connectors - and 2 at the memory card cover - the others are quite obvious. Also be aware that there is an interface and 2 wires that connect the back (with the screen) to the motherboard so don't pull them apart too hard. I kept the batteries in (you have to hold them in place in the compartment, and got a mini hoover I use to clean my PC keyboard, and placed it so that it could clean under the motherboard - there are spaces around the edge where you can do this. Suddenly the lens came to life and extended corrently. Big smiles from me! I then re-attached the casing and screwed it all up again. Working as good as new now. You may has well have a go - repairs are almost the cost of new one apparently and it was out of warranty so I didn't feel I had anything to lose by having a go.

Zoom lens not working

Hey cjk1234,
You can replace the lens on the camera through a authorized service technician, but often with digital camera repairs the cost of the repair exceeds the price of the camera. I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service tech.

Not Zooming

The lens assembly on the Camedia and many other cameras has a special motor to facilitate the zooming. It sounds as if your motor is actually working but it's not engaging the gears to drive the zoom in and out. It could be a fractured gear somewhere in that drive system. I wouldn't recommend pulling one apart. They are a mongrel to put back together the right way. Keep your eyes open on Ebay for your model with a busted LCD or fault not associated with the lens and do a complete lens assembly transplant. Something which is relatively easy to do as long as you take notes of where all the parts and screws go. If you get left with no more than 2 screws when you've finished, you've done well.
