I'm not sure that this will be a once a for all answer, but the link below says that any device with an sd slot can handle mmc but devices with slots designed exclusively for MMC cannot handle SD. Since the axim has an SD slot, I would say that it is compatible with MMC although I haven't tried an MMC card and the manual doesn't specific mention MMC memory.

Your device has two slots located on the top of the unit. The larger slot supports CompactFlash Type II cards. The smaller slot supports Secure Digital (SD) memory cards, Secure Digital I/O (SDIO) cards, and the MultiMediaCard (MMC). All three memory card types are available in sizes from 64 MB to 1 GB or 2 GB. CompactFlash Cards Your device supports CompactFlash Type II cards. When insert mmc phone became hang.what i will do?even memory card is ok.

Try re-formatting the mmc card, it may be invalidly formatted or formatted in a mode not compatible with the phone. Also check your phone's compatibility list, it may not support newer larger cards.

I cant open my sd/mmc card reader and writer.

Some SD and MMC have a security feature in them. If so you will need the disk that came along with it. After you install it then that's the time you can fully utilize your SD/MMC. SD means Secure Data / MMC means Multi Media Card.
If your card reader is not appearing in the My Computer then check if it is detected in the Windows device manager. Go to START > CONTROL PANEL > DEVICE MANAGER. Usually it is under the category of Disk Adapters or Human Interface Device. If it's not present then unplug and plug the device back in. Or try a different USB port to see if that will work. If it doesn't then most likely the reader is defective. But if it is detected and still not able to read the SD/MMC and the SD is being read by a different computer then the issue could be that the SD is not compatible with the reader.

Looking for a Wi-Fi card for a Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

According to http://www.socketmobile.com/pdf/wireless-lan/go-wi-fi_spec.pdf it looks like you have to have Windows Moblie 5 or 6 or Windows CE.

The Axim X5 can only go up to Windows Mobile 2003 (Mobile 5 is the one after this).

My suggestion is sell the REALLY great Socket card and get one that works with your X5 (you have either Pocket PC 2002 or Windows Mobile 2003) If you Ebay search Dell TrueMobile, you'll find the card that works with either.

I need mine too, so it looks like we'll have a bidding war.

Installing San Disk Wireless Lan Card for Dell AXIM 5

Actually the reason why it's saying that is because that card is not compatible with the Dell Axim X5 because if it was you wouldn't get that response. I'm still looking for a Wi-Fi card for mine as well because I ordered the P500 Wi-Fi compact flash card from Dell then come to find out it wasn't compatible with the Axim X5, it was discontinued.

Speed of CF vs SD in Axim

The reason CF COULD be faster is that it is a parallel connection (16bit IIRC) while SD/MMC is serial in nature. Now, assuming the INTERFACE were the limiting factor in the speed this could become significant. Unfortunately the interface is NOT the limit (in most cases), the limit is the actual fetching of data from the memory itself. Being Flash it is nowhere near as fast as some of the other types of memory we are used to. It is especially slow when being written to. Newer cards out there are faster then older ones, but in the end I doubt you would notice much if any difference between the speed of a CF versus an SD/MMC card

Is the Axim compatible with IBM 1 Gig MicroDrive? As this is the only way to put full length feature film onto the PocketPC platform. I know that the Axim has a type II Flashcard slot but want to make...

The advanced Axim appears to work fine with the 1GB Microdrive. Just appears as a "CF Card". MP3's etc play fine from it with no noticeable problems.

Microdrive compatible?

The microdrive is compatable with anything that supports reading compact flash memory cards, because there is a common method of communication between flash and hard drives that use pcmcia or CF slots.
