The most likely cause for this is a damaged or defective flexible ribbon cable that connects the LCD to the camera body and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

When I look through the view finder--everything is upside down???

Astro telescopes normally do show an inverted image, since for most purposes this does not matter. For terrestrial viewing, such as thru someone's window, you can buy an "erect image" or "correct image" prism which gives an upright image.

I don't know of such a thing for the finder scope, you would have to buy a new finder.

Viewfinder views things backwards

Yes, most finder scopes show upside down images, it's completely normal.

This is an astronomical telescope. Even the main tube shows upside down images unless you use what is called an "erecting prism" for terrestrial viewing.

Dust inside my d200

The view finder and focusing screen are separate from the CCD sensor. The mirror reflects the image to the view finder until you take a picture. Then the mirror goes up, the shutter opens to expose the CCD to capture the image.

If you have a lot of dust, you should look into a cleaning kit, or have it professionally cleaned. This will show up on your images as white and/or black specks.
