I can connect my Axim X5 to the Internet using my mobile phone via infrared without a problem. You need to create a new dial-up connection using "Generic Infrared" modem in the setup. The number to be dialled is a function of your mobile phone. On my Nokia 6230i the "number" is *99# for creating a GPRS connection. Your mobile phone has to be correctly set up for Internet access and obviously you have to have a data plan.

How i access internet in linux rhel 4 by my motorazr v3i

But there is a software i would personally recommend to you.

Name of software is "Sakis3g". It can connect to mobile phones and other mobile devices which can be detected by linux kernel. You can use IR, Bluetooth, even USB cable to connect to your device.

You can use this software for the following

  1. connect to mobile devices by IR, bluetooth, USB Cable
  2. Send and receive files between computer and device
  3. Access Internet from Device by Dial Up Networking
  4. Browse files on Mobile device
  5. Mount the mobile device on a user specified mount point or communication port.
Usually it mounts connected mobile device to /dev/rfcomm0. Through this port, you can communicate with the device .
  6. Connect to USB Modem (Like Reliance DataConnect, TATA Photon, IDEA Netsetter etc.)
  7. ability to connect to any locked/unlocked USB Internet Modems (Zero Devices)
  8. fully automated connection setup. No manual input is needed except to specify connection name.

You can find more details and download Sakis3g from this address

Sakis3g Homepage may not specify anything about connecting a mobile phone to computer and using it as an Internet Modem, but trust me its possible. Meanwhile I'm posting this by using DUN with the help of this script.
  • Just Run the script
  • choose Connect
  • Select Bluetooth
  • It will search for a new bluetooth device
  • Once your phone is detected, Select it and press ok
  • when it asks for APN (Access Point Name) provide it
  • When it asks for user name and password, Provide it. If your service provider do not need any username and password to access internet , Don't just leave it as blank (Program doesn't accepts empty user name and password. you just press space and enter)
  • Once all necessary informations are entered program may simply closes. Don't worry your connection manager will show this new connection entry.

  • To Disconnect the connection , you can select Disconnect option in Sakis3g.

hope this will help you to solve your issue.

Can i make my axim x51 a smartphone.

Unfortunately............no. Too many differences in hardware. There ARE however, there are ways to make it web accessable using bluetooth through a cell phone. Very doable and worth doing with any of the Dell x5x series PDAs. Can be done, I've just never gone that far to find out how.Check out Mobilitysite and HTCGeeks for a wealth of info on anything Dell Axim (other mobile stuff too!).

No wifi, how do i get on internet

This model of the Axim X30 does not have built in wi-fi capability. You need to purchase a 802.11 b/g Wireless SDIO card.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT INSERT SDIO CARD INTO AXIM X30 BEFORE INSTALLING DRIVERS.

1. Connect the Axim X30 to your computer.
2. Establish a connection between the two devices using Active-Sync.
3. Insert CR-ROM which ships with the SDIO card in your computer.
4. Follow instructions for installing Driver an Utility.
5. Install SDIO card into the SD slot on the Axim X30.

Internet and Bluetooth Problems

The issue you have is that the Axim does not have any built in connectivity for networking. In order for the Bluetooth to connect you, you would have to first pair the Axim to a Bluetooth enabled phone that can support Internet connections. Bluetooth on its own can't connect to the Internet, it is a protocol to link devices together.
The easier way would be to buy a wireless 802.11 compact flash card that will support PocketPC and then use a wireless access point to connect to the Internet.

Have a dell axim x5 . how do you transfer files from the pc to ax

For exact to the point instructions we need specifics about what you want to do and with what but here goes...

Can't really help with the connect to the internet without more info than you provided. You need a wireless card, access to a wireless system and the drivers for the card. Even then it is not always consistant.

First I'm assuming you know that you need and have installed Activesync on the computer.

To transfer files to the Axim you simply drop them in the mobile my documents folder that is installed on the desktop when sync files is selected in Activesync. If you don't have it, open Activesync and select" options", check the "files" box. A desktop icon will be added.

If you mean install program files... most of the time you install on the desktop and it adds files to the x5 when you sync.

Sometimes you may need to transfer CAB files to the x5. In that case you will drag and drop the file on your x5 in my computer or on the icon on the desktop just like any other file move to another location

If your trying to sync with the wireless card, I am not familier with the method but in order to get the card to work it needs drivers that must be installed from the computer and through Activesync by wired connection first
