Kenmore Vacuum model #116.25813508

I'm having the same problem where the canister won't shut off (model #116.25813508). You mention it is probably a relay mounted in the motor compartment sticking in the on position. I can't find a part with that description on the WWW.SEARSPARTSDIRECT.COM website.
Can you help me?

Bag full vacuum shut off. Is there a reset

You didn't mention the model, but with several Electrolux canister models, I'd say there's probably a problem with the control valve assembly inside the canister. This would need to be repaired at an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. If unsure where the nearest store is, use this link to locate one:
http://www.aerushome.com/storelocator/

The tip on the following link covers other possible causes.

I have a Kenmore "Intuition"

I had a different vacuum that did this. I took all manner of things apart looking for blockages and the like .I found that by having the vacuum handle in the full upright position shuts off the suction to this area and doesn't power the brush BY DESIGN. I think this is to get more suction to the hose.

Model 116 Kenmore vacuum cleaner. 20+ years old,

Greetings,

I believe that this is probably a Kenmore Canister vacuum cleaner, but I can't be positive. The model number 116 is just the first part, and all Sears vacuum cleaners start with model 116. There is a . after the 116 that will identify the vacuum. If you'd like me to be more model specific, or if this is an upright vacuum, please just request a clarification and I can take pictures even for you.

If this is a canister style vacuum, then you'll need to remove the foot pedal that rewinds the cord reel. There are 2 or 3 (depending on which model you have) hidden screws underneath of this pedal. You may simply pry off the pedal using a flat head screw driver. Also when you have the bag door open, you may just pull forward while it's open, and this will remove the bag door housing. There should be two screws in the front of the motor housing that need to be removed as well.

My guess from the age of the vacuum that's probably the motor that's gone. If this is the case, you probably can still get a motor if you'd like to just replace the motor inside, rather then buying a new vacuum. Typical Sears Kenmore canister motors sell for 79-120 dollars.

Again, I'd be happy to try and help you further, I will just need the entire model number after the 116. to know which vacuum you have.

If this was helpful, please click the 4 thumbs up icons in the top of the page. Thank you,

Chris J.

Vacuum will not shut-off

if it has a foot pedal flick it a few times and see if it goes off.if its a switch unplug the vacuum and move the switch from on to off real fast a few time.if you have any contact cleaner you can try to spray a little into the switch while unplugged and work the switch back and forth a few times .the switch might just be dirty.if you don't hear a click when you turn it ioff and on then the switch is probably bad.please leave feedback.i hope i was some help to you

Need to know if a replacement part can be purchased and where

Kenmore canisters are privately labeled Panasonic canisters and sometimes panasonic parts will fit them. Any reputable independent dealer should be able to tell you if the part you're looking for is intercharngable with a Panasonic, but he/she will probably need to actually see the unit.

Your other option is to take it to the Sears service dept. They are the only ones who have access to the schematics and "Kenmore" parts. It'll probably be more expensive through them though.

Lid will not snap shut over vac bag on kenmore magic clue

You have probably closed it by now :-) but when this happened to us we found that if we opened the tool compartment on the lid, the main lid then closed on the bag with a tiny bit of jiggling around. I don't know why, but this worked.

Can't figure out how to replace the bag

Open the hood, bag #20-50557 , the cardboard part goes in the bag holder, will only fit in one direction, then close the hood.
