I was just wondering how to clean the filter on my Maytag window air conditioner. I saw somewhere that they need to be cleaned and don't know how to take the filter out to clean it, or exactly where it is. Can't find my manual. Also, I need a remote control.....used is fine as long as it works. The number on the back of the remote is: 11-21-500-10-003 Thanks for any help.......

M's Kitty . I can't help you with the remote But I might be aboe to help you with the filter service.
If you look behind the front cover you can see the coils with a spong type filter infront of it. You might have to remove the whole cover to get to it and sometimes there is a door of sorts to allow access. shut the unit down and remove the filter and wash it out with warm soapy water and replace it. and restart the unit. and your off and running again.. You should check your filter at least bi weekly unil you see that remains clean and you might get by with a monthly inspection .. Hope this helps .. Let me know have a good day .. Jon

Testimonial: "Thanks Jon.Filter was at front as you said, but screen instead of sponge, & 2 tabs to pull it out I hadn't seen before, guess I didn't look hard enuf.:)"

The air that comes out of the vent stinks. How do i fix this? Do i need replacement parts? Please help...

No you probably don't need any parts just a thourough cleaning of the water tray and evaperator coils and the air filters. they make a product you can get at hardware stores for cleaning the coils and a mild detergent and water with a little baking soda should clean the rest. you will need to dissasemble the unit for the cleaning so as not to miss anything. Over time water builds up deposits and they can grow algea's and molds that cause these smells. You might however need to replace the filters if yours are not washable or are damaged beyond cleaning. Refer to your manual on the cleaning process.

I don"t know what model

If the filter looks like metal mesh, you can clean it in a tub of soapy water. If it looks like cotton, you'll need to get a new one. You can pick one up at Home Depot et al. Either bring in the old one or get the measurements of it to give to the salespeople.

I have a Maytag window air conditioner unit (model M6T12FSA). The 'check filter' light came on and after I cleaned the filter, the 'check filter' light remains on even after a few hours of...

Turn the unit OFF & Unplug it. Remove the filter and reinstall it, being sure that it's installed properly. Particularly, which way the plastic filter frame is facing when installed.

Plug the unit back in and turn it ON. Hopefully, the electronics now will accept the filter being properly in place.

Hope this helps and thanks for choosing FixYa.

@gmail.comshould i need to put more freon in this air conditioner?

The only time you have to add freon is if you have a leak in the refrigeration system. Check and make sure all your coils are clean and the filter is clean. If its a cleaning issue these things will seem like its low on freon but is not just needs some love.let me know ok

Removal of front cover, so filter can be cleaned

On my air conditioner the filter slides out from the top of the air intake grill. It looks like part of the grill but look closely you should see the seam across the top of the grill. You don't have to take the front grill off.

It's not as cold as it used to be

Probably needs a good cleaning of the coils and fins for proper air flow. If it is not dirty you may have a leak in the system, usually small window air units don't leak but larger cenrtral units can leak from soldering joints from the installers. Also clean or replace any air filters, thses block air and can cause the unit to freeze up and restrict even more air flow.

"Check Filter" light is on

Take out the filter and pour water on the oposite side that is the dirt,if the water is not enough use degreaser and also clean thefront cover where the filter goes.
