I bought my computer (e machine) about a couple of years ago and I have never been able to burn a disk. Why is that?

Look at the CDROM does is state CDROM R/W or something similar indicating it is a writer.

the proper disks from Gateway for under 20 bucks and it only took a few days to get them via courier.so here is the link http://us-store.gateway.com/.Sadly when we bought computers years ago
new they came with the repair and or recovery media. Now its an extra but its so handy to have. Hope this helps Good Luck

OS load on new hard drive

MS offers a free and legal image of Windows 7 at My Digital life dot com. You must own and have a working MS Product Key sticker with Win 7 on your computer. Plus the version must match your sticker in order for the key to work. Look for the correct image!

Download. Burn ISO to make bootable install disk and reinstall. GL

just a suggestion but a few years ago is aeons in tech time maybe, just maybe the drivers for that ext drive were overlapped with OS X migration?

check apple site for more or ext drive site for latest drivers

try to update the firmware of the DVD itself by going to the OEM website, tell me if it will work

Hard disk

if it's under warranty call sony and ask if they cover the hard disk failure,
If not purchase one of ebay (35-45 dollars) and install it yourself (check the manual, it will describe the process step by step.
