Black Pictures Hi. I have a problem with my new HP R717. When I turn it on, display (setup, menus, icons) work normaly but the screen is black (like I am taking pictures in complete darkness or as if lens is coverd). Of course when I preview taken photos they are also black. Same with video. I tried with reset but nothing. Grateful for any help...

Since you can see the menus, did you try to go to the setup menu, and adjust the brightness of the screen?
It is in the setup menu, the line under Sound settings. Try to make the display brighter and don't forget to ok that one, because otherwise nothing will be changed. OK with the ok / Func button.
I have a similar problem on my DSC W320 just a black screen when using the viewfinder and when i press to take a picture it is still black. Everything else works fine, I can access menus, change settings, view pictures that were taken before this error. VERY STRANGE, please can you help!!!!
Hi there your lcd screen is fine but the Chances or damaged are lens or sensor of lens or circuitbord disconnect from the lens sensor. All cases you need to visit service center. Thanks.
i think the aparture and shutter settings an /or the exposure settings have changed try restting back to factory settings and things should get back to normal
is there a view finder on this camera? often when there is a screen and a viewfinder there is a button to toggle between them, my sony camera has such a button although it is not a cybershot. i imagine the button says "dis" or "LCD" and just needs to be toggled. if the display were bad you would not be able to view pictures on it. display works must be configuration issue.
I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not
see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else
worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback
as well.
I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told
the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito,
Ecuador)
CCD malfunction, common with Sony manufactured CCD chips. You are in luck, its a free repair regardless of warranty date. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=223&modelid=8044#
