If it does have fuses, they will be connected to the battery or be hiding under the seat.

If you have specific mechanism or adjustment questions try a search engine. Many people make videos explaining things.

Walmart was the start of your problem. NON-Bike Shops don't have a clue how to assemble a bike, fit it to you or explain anything.

Get on a Search Engine and start asking those questions. "how to shift a bicycle" is one. Many videos are out there.

Otherwise, find a Local Bike Shop or bicycle enthusiast who can explain things to you and fix it.

As far as upgrade pedals go, that would depend on the rider's preferences (toe straps, clipless) and comfort level with them. A Bike Shop will probably stock and install anything you could want.

Keep in mind that the left side is left threaded.

Sounds like you bought a Schwinn Spirit Bike Trailer. Here is the link to the manual for that model. They all basically attach the same from Schwinn so should be enough for you.
