I got a replacement treo 650. I do the hot sync, but unfortunatly the new device does not have the user name of the old one. So I cannot retrieve my old informaiton. How can I change the user name in the device itself so that it can match? I cannot figure this one out...should be simple i guess...

users.dat is created in your named profile directory on the drive in the Palm folder. If it is missing, your computer can't sync properly to the device. Do a backup of your device using the palm desktop, this should recreate the file in your profile folder on the machine.
you should go into your computer to my computer. then file programs.look for palm then open. look for your user name open then look for backup file rename the back up file then hot sync the phone then use the same user name it will start up a new back up folder. you might have something on your phone that the phone do not agree with. this should work if you hot sync your phone to your computer.
Try Desktop overwrite HH. I've lost everything on my HH a couple of times and had to set the conduits to 'Desktop overwrites HH' in the hotsync manager - Custom settings for the next hot sync.
If what you have on desktop isn't what you want, you should copy your saved folder info back over whats in your palm folders (i.e) where you copied it from.. Before you complete this step. Then your old data will be copied to your HH.
Note - I assume you "copied" , not "archived" the data.
I manage to sync with both home and work, I upgraded to a Treo 650, and sync'd at home, then deleted my work user, and sync'd at work... and it's worked fine.
I'm able to add tasks, events, apps etc either at home or work, and they successfully sync with the other machine.
The only issue I've had is once or twice, my photos have doubled up, but that hasn't happened often.
Thanks to a fellow user, I was informed that I needed to purchase Chapura software. The following link has the software that does two way sync with BCM. Others don't. I did however have a few problems, but the help desk through Chapura was able to get the process working.
