Zire 71 Power probelems

Over the last 3 months my Zire has been shutting down and then loosing all my saved data. I sent it in for repairs and the battery was replaced. Unfortunately I am still having the same problem. My system resets to January 2003 and I loose the Real Player and Documents to Go tools and have to resynchronize to regain the lost data. This is a pain when I am on the road and don't have full access to my Outlook data through our company server. Any suggestions, short of repkacing the whole unit?

1. Try to remember if there was some new software that you installed in your palm. If this is the case, try to delete it and check if the problem has disappeared. 2. Check if the Palm's power is off after 2-3 minutes. It may happen that one of the applications causes the Palm not to shut off. 3. If the above suggestions are irrelevant - the previous answer (replace battery again) is the solution.

Palm Zire 71 handheld does not come on, did a hard reset, nothing

Confirm that both the cradle and the PDA ports are clean and free of dust or dirty.

Also, check your AC wall adapter to confirm that is working. The output should be +5.0 volts DC. Any repair shop has a multimeter need it to check it in no time.

If everything appears is OK, then confirm the PDA is properly placed in the cradle, and that the PDA is not loose on the cradle, indicating that the port contacts are not touching.

The information on my Palm Zire 71 all appears to have been lost.

looks like it's completely gone, hope you kept backups.

was the data stored on the SD-Card, if so try putting the sd-card in a computer/card reader.

Zire 71 Camera

1) The camera is most likely broken- unless you are handy dont bother trying to use the camera

2) The booklet isn't all that useful but you can find a copy of it on Palm's website as a PDF file

3) It will turn off and a prompt will warn you of the low battery, but if you continue to turn it on it will "forget" everything in memory

I hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your Zire - it is a good PDA

Zire 71 screen

Two possible scenarios:

1. Loose LCD screen connector inside the pda. You will need to open it and put it right.

It requires some level of skills to open it, repair it, close it properly.

If not precautions are taken, there are two major risks:

a) Break the flat ribbon cable of the universal PalmOne port (used to synchronize it and charge it).

b) Break a tiny switch that detects when is slided the top side so the camera application turns on.

2. LCD screen is damaged. It needs replacement.

You can get in touch with local repair services for it, and request a quote for its diagnostics and repair.

If after get some quotes, you think that they are excessive, you can contact the Ebay seller Great_items_2004 to receive a lower quote for it.

Screen insensitive to stylus

Have you run the digitizer app, which is located in Preferences, and recalibrates the digitizer? If it is not the digitizer problem , it may be the stylus you are using.. read this: http://discussion.brighthand.com/palmhandhelds/showthread.php?s=2291eadf13e4feda45b1303d5ba7089e&threadid=3182 By the way, about Palm's "repair service", take a look below: "... I can sympathize with you. Six months after I bought a Palm Zire 71 I had exactly the same problem, it would not respond to the stylus. I sent it in for repair (fortunately I got someone in India who spoke fairly good English). They set it back after a week or so and a month later I had exactly the same problem again. (They did return my original unit.) Again I had to send it in and they sent me a replacement that works so far. I had a previous experience with Palm's "repair service" where they again did a repair that only lasted a few weeks. ..."
