Question about Stoves 720EF Electric Double Oven

I have a stoves cooker which was working fine until we upgraded to the seventeeth edition consumer unit and rcds. Now I have a negative earth fault.Rcd trips out, circuit is fine up to the cooker. Any clues on where it may possibly be on the cooker. The cooker has two ovens, one grill oven, 2 induction rings, 2 halogen rings and warming plate.

The clue will be when the rcd trips out. If everything is switched off on the cooker with the exception of the clock when you power it up and then it trips out, it could be in the wiring to the oven from the control switch and or the wiring in the oven. The only way you are going to find this is to take the oven out of the housing and test the wiring, isolating components until you find the problem.

Frigidaire oven trips the breaker w/loud popping spark behind the stove when it is turned on. With breaker reset, the stove was heating up even though it was off. Can it be fixed? I unplugged it.
sounds like someone spilled something down the back of the oven. you wuill have to open the back and trace the mains lead and see were it leads amd if it needs cleaning. rcds trip when water or steam hits the mains.

Why is my oven cutting out
If your oven is cutting out and this goes for anyone else experiencing the same problem.

If this is happening WITH ONLY THE COOKER. then either you will need the item looking at for proper earthing OR you will need the wiring checked for the cooker along with the RCD to which the cooker is connected as these can SOMETIMES be faulty.

Does the same happen if something else is plugged into the same socket??? If so then the socket and the wiring to the fuse board/ distribution board / consumer unit must be faulty or the earthing

We have a smeg a2a range , the main oven trips the consumer unit when we turn it on the small oven still works fine
You have a short, probably a wire came loose and is welded to the frame. I assume hte consumer unit is the braker for the stove in your panel.

I would suggest the wrong wires were cut off and joined. If the ground wire touches the power wire a fuse or circuit breaker will blow.. Before you do anything more make sure the curcuit breaker is not blown. If it is reset it and turn the cooker back on. If the breaker blows again then it is wired wrong.

Blows mains fuse
This tutorial will show you how to check your Smeg element and how to replace your Smeg cooker element.
Here are the 3 main faults to look for in your oven or cooker that is not heating
  1. Your oven will not work until the clock/timer has been re-set after replacing an oven element or tripping the electrical supply. Consult your Smeg manual.
  2. If your Oven is not getting hot or heating up it could be a faulty element, if the fan in the oven is running and the thermostat light is on, this will lead us to believe that the element has gone faulty. With grills the thermostat light should come on there should be heat, if not then this could be the grill element or the thermostat.
  3. When you turn the oven on, the household electrical supply trips on the Rcd (this is the earth trip in the fuse board sometimes called the breaker tripping) your fan oven element has gone to earth and needs replacing.

My terim cooker has 3 wires - black, blue and brown. Do you know which is live, negative and earth?
green or green and yellow is the ground (earth), blue is neutral, black and brown are both lives. this is the standard european wire color code since 2004. If it is older than that, black was used as a neutral, and blue as a live. very confusing.

Normally, there is a master switch on the wall near the oven. This is in turn is usually fed from its own fuse/breaker on the consumer unit. I suspect this has bblown.

I need to wire up an electric cooker ,am unsure what wires go where as in live earth etc
White is neutral, green (or bare copper) is ground (earth), black is hot. If it's a 220-volt unit you will also have a red - it's another hot.

The timer has broken and needs replacing

I had the same problem, we checked all the wires inside and all ok, so phoned stoves and they said that the it sounds like the timer as this is the first port

Replaced the timer and cooker is now working fine - only thing to remember when ordering the timer - my cooker is green and now has a red light instead of green
