My old 32 inch rca f32665 stopped working as we were watching it. no picture or sound and there is a sound coming from the back where the power cord goes in that sounds exactly like a cricket only its a continuous chirp with no breaks. the power button has no effect, the sound persists as long as the power cable is in the wall. I just graduated from electronics engineering program but we didn't fix any old tvs . I should be able to fix this myself but would love any advice. would a bad transformer chirp like that????

check the invertor boards resistors they power the back lights
also check for any capactors that have blown (raised tops) they look little bateries

You need to adjust "vertical height" in the service program. You need to put the set in "service mode" to do this adjustment. If you google "enter service mode RCA F32665" you should find the procedure. It will be listed in abbreviated letters such as VERT SIZE or VERT HT. Follow the instructions for entering service mode and saving the data closely!! The data you change will be listed as a number between 1 and 63. The number will only need to reduced by a small amount and you can still see the picture behind the data and watch it shrink as you adjust the number down.Always burn the new number to memory (if required) before exiting service mode. Try other inputs such as rca and svideo.

Unplug the power to the tv for couple of minutes; replug and should have sound!

tv worked great, turned it off one day and back on the next and the on light would not come on nor would the tv work, rear projection 52 inch rca

The first thing is to check to see if the fuse is blown,if so replace with a 5 amp fuse,fuse is located near were the power cord connects to the board,make sure set is disconnected from power.

You have a bad flyback transformer and shorted horizontal output transistor. Your set would have to be taken to a shop to have these parts replaced. Stargazer

You have a problem in the video circuit. Any video that comes into the set is not getting to the picture tube. The menus come from the system control microprocessor. This shows that the input at the picture tube itself is working. Also you system control is working. The signal would have to be traced through the set to find out where the loss is originating.
