Hi. Had a J565 go bad. Got a replacement unit from HP and all was well but stupidly didn't test connecting it to the USB synch cradle until after the 90 day warranty was bad. I don't synch too often but use it to install software on the J565.
Anyway, when I tried this with the J565 replacement unit, activesynch does not detect the device connected to the USB cradle. Nothing.
The old one worked. The new one does not.
I'm not a very good PC user, so if you have any suggestions, please go easy on me. :-)

Re: Jornada 565 no longer being seen by ActiveSync?
Occasionally under XP Pro, my 564 won't be recognized when I put it on the cradle to sync. I just take it off the cradle and try again. My understanding is the XP loads an HP driver when the Jornada is detected as connected by USB, if that driver doesn't load succesfully, then XP won't recognize the Jornada.

MIPS, SH3, and StrongARM are types of processors used in handheld PCs. Some software requires a specific processor to run. For instance, Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 requires a StrongARM processor. The Jornada 565 has a 206MHz StrongARM processor.
I use an Omnibook 500 with a Jornada 545 as you describe without problems. The most likely cause is the difference in processors. The first version of Pocket PC was supported on three different CPU architectures. The Jornada 545 uses an SH3 processor. Applications designed for the 565 will not run on the 545. You will need to find applications designed for the SH3 processor.
Only a hint. Did you check the small print via the downloads for Pocket PC on the Microsoft web pages? If you download from the regular OS pages they don't mention that certain Pocket PC generations are not supported.
I noticed this but only on Media Player downloads fom the pocket PC pages but it takes time to find this more detailed info.
